Beaut’ ute! Fully restored, multiple show winner; all receipts

The EK represented Holden’s annual facelift for 1961 and brought with it incremental updates and various refinements to interior and exterior trim; a new heating/fresh-air unit, and a new grille.

Less obvious were the new electric windscreen wipers, replacing the old vacuum system, and the new imported Hydramatic three-speed gearbox.

The EK represented a high-point for Holden in tis infancy, selling 112,860 vehicles in 1961, before Ford and Chrysler’s Falcon and Valiant made serious strides up the sales chart.

While the passenger cars could be had in standard or special trim levels, the commercial vehicles were relatively unchanged from the preceding models.

This 1962 EK ute is a beaut’, with some thoughtful upgrades bringing the old workhorse into modernity.

The correct bones are all there: rust free body in Tuscany Yellow over white and green interior, 138 grey motor with original extractors and three-speed manual gearbox.

The car fully restored eight years ago whilst retaining all of its original chrome. The inner and outer sills were replaced with new items while all rust was cut out with new pieces welded in place, before its new coat of Tuscany Yellow was applied in 2-pack.

Inside the cabin there is a complete new interior, with an alarm and immobiliser as well as a more modern CD/AUX player hidden in the glove box.

Under the bonnet, the engine is complimented all new rubbers and seals as well as new hoses, fuel and brake lines throughout. The EK has also recently received a full service with new clutch kit, and new slave and master.

The seller boasts receipts for all work, including those collected by previous owners. The full restoration is documented in photo and video, and has reportedly won a number of awards at Melbourne car shows.

The EK ute looks turn-key and ready to cruise!

It’s based in Victoria and is listed for $30,000.
