Bob Jane’s HQ Monaro back on the market
After failing to sell at auction earlier in the year, one of Australia’s most recognisable race cars is back up for grabs
Bob Jane’s improved-production Monaro race car is back on the market after going to auction back in July and failing to sell, despite a top bid of $749,309.
Now, it’s back on the market! Listed on our classifieds and priced "POA", the iconic racer is now offered via Australian Muscle Car Sales in Sydney.
The car graced our cover back in April 2015, when John Bowe strapped in for a spin, calling it "the most immaculate race car I think I’ve ever seen".
The tyre tycoon and prominent racer’s HQ first hit the track in 1972 after being built by John Sheppard and Pat Purcell, with a Formula 5000-derived fuel-injected dry-sumped Chevrolet 350ci V8 to replace Jane’s formidable ZL1 Camaro. The car went on to win the Sports Sedan Series in 1975, and competed in the Muscle Car Masters, piloted by JB, in 2015.
Following its semi-retirement days, the car underwent an exacting eight-year restoration and comes with a huge document file of history and CAMS COD.
It’s a unique opportunity to own one of the country’s most recognisable race cars; with significant race history, and touched by the hands of many of Australia’s legendary motorsport figures.
AMCS state that a large cache of historic parts is also able to be included in the sale, by negotiation; and the owner may consider a part trade of a quality muscle car (…or a few, in this price bracket we imagine).
You can see the car in person at Australian Muscle Car Sales’ showroom in Sydney.
