1960 Lotus Elite 2 - today's tempter
Lightweight exotic
If you were a fan of Lotus and wanted a car that epitomises founder Colin Chapman’s credo of light weight equals performance, a first generation Elite would be perfect.
The tiny two seater runs steel subframe work, however it’s bonded to a load-bearing fibreglass monocoque construction and claims a kerb weight of just 505kg.
That lot is powered by a 1.2lt Coventry Climax engine matched to a four-speed manual transmission.
These cars are designed to be driven to the track, raced, and driven home again.
The date of this example places it at midway through the car’s production. Its owner says it has had a comprehensive restoration that has won club awards.
Located at Ipswich in Qld, it’s priced at $135,000
