Mazda RX-7 Series 2 - today's tempter
Classic eighties coupe
In 1978 Mazda stunned the world with the RX-7 coupe. Sporting a 1.1-litre rotary engine tied to a five-speed manual, driving the rear wheels, it was an instant hit. And in the past few years prices have taken off. See our RX-7 feature.
The more refined Series 2 RX-7 arrived late 1981 with rear disc brakes, 10 percent more grunt and unique 13-inch alloys. Being a rotary, a bucket load of revs is mandatory to go anywhere. When wound up the little rotary goes like a cut snake and the responsive chassis makes it a delight to drive. I bought Moffat's RX-7.
This 1983 manual Series 2 is stock standard. It has new tyres and clutch components and according to the ad is accident free and in excellent condition. Red in colour and Queensland based, it's offered at $39,000.
