If you wanted something a bit special in Australian muscle cars, the typical solution in recent years has been HSV or FPV. However a third player, in the form of the Peter Champion-owned HDT, provided an alternative.

Without question the most eye-catching of the outfit's line-up was the retro 'Blue Meanie' based on the VE Commodore platform. For a while it qualified as a must-have, if you were also fortunate enough to own an original VK Blue Meanie.

Shannons has one in its current auction and, if you were in the market for one, this looks like the car to have. It's with its second owner and is claiming just 39,000km with a full service record and all the books.

It seems the original buyer ticked all the boxes when ordering the car, while it's base platform is a 350kW V8 backed by a six-speed manual transmission.

The auction has begun and the estimate for lot 147 is $58-68,000. Bidding is already at $50,000 with a long way to go - the auction closes April 20.
