Fancy a genuine, HDT-fettled VK Commodore but don’t feel like blending into the sea of Blue Meanie replicas at the next cars and coffee? Then this genuine 1984 LM5000 HDT VK could just fit the bill.

While the Blue Meanie is the most remembered VK Commodore that HDT built, it also did a stack of limited run builds on the side, including the LM5000s.

Just 75 LM5000s were built in celebration of Peter Brock and Larry Perkins attempt at the world famous Le Mans 24hr in 1984, a memorable race for a number of reasons. The boys didn’t win the thing in their Porsche 956, but it did prove Brock could keep pace with some of Europe’s best. However, he was so worn out and broken after the marathon effort that it led him onto Erik Dower, which eventually culminated in the Energy Polariser – and well, as you know, the rest is history.

But back to the LM5000, as this one appears to be a pretty neat example. It still wears the original Alpine White paint and HDT bodykit, along with the matching numbers 308ci V8 donk with Brock B cast heads, the original Bilstein suspension is still underneath and the correct Irmscher 15-inch alloys are still there too – the spare wheel even has the original Uniroyal Wild Cat rubber on it!

The only major modification on the LM5000 appears to be a swap from the old M21 four-shift banger to a Supra five-speeder. Other than that, it includes all the original paperwork and has just 97,164km on the ticker – making it a perfect rare bird for any collector.
