A late-comer to the pony car party, the 1st-gen Camaro remains a highly sought-after classic

The Chevrolet Camaro appeared late onto the market, with the pony car and personal sports coupe boom already in full swing, thanks to the birth of the Ford Mustang.

First arriving in dealerships in late 1966 and based on the new GM F-Body architecture, the Camaro was available in a range of body styles, a plethora of engine choices and a variety of trim levels.

Three main option and trim packs were available to buyers: The RS brought with it various visual and appearance features such as hidden headlights, revised tail lights, RS badging and exterior brightwork; the SS package was a performance pack and brought with it either a 350 or 396ci V8, as well as chassis and handling upgrades, and iconic SS stripes and badges.

At the top of the tree was the Z/28 package, taking the performance ethos of the SS pack even further; with a solid-lifter 302ci V8, four-speed transmission, and power disc brakes – all allowing the car to compete in the SCCA Trans-Am series.

This first-year build 1967 Camaro is reportedly a genuine RS/SS car, fitted with a 350ci V8 and TH350 three-speed automatic transmission (curiously however, this transmission was only introduced for the 1969 model year).

The car features a "new/rebuilt" 3.73 12 bolt rear end, and the interior too is fitted with some modern luxuries such as hidden Bluetooth stereo and two large amps. The seller states that the car will come with a range of new trim parts and spares.

The seller purports that the motor is strong and the car overall is in excellent condition.

The car certainly presents itself well in photos, with deep black paint with plenty of lustre, and a clean and hard-to-fault interior and engine bay.

Collectors chasing 100% originality may not find it here, but this looks to be an incredibly well-cared for car.

The ’67 Camaro is listed for $60,000 and is based in WA.
