Just the thing for the big trip

If you were planning on loading up a few people, some gear and maybe the odd surfboard, there are much worse ways of travelling the country.

This 1984 Ford Falcon XE is based on a pretty bullet-proof platform, starting with the 4.1lt straight six that powered much of the range. In this case the seller claims it's had a bit of a freshen up and has aorund 280,000km on the odo.

Unusually, that lot is matched to a four-speed manual - a three-speed auto was a far more common spec.

The period accessories add a bit of glam: such as the sun visor, roof rack and the Globe mag wheels.

Most of its contemporaries would have been worked to death - wagons don't seem to have a great survival rate.

The XD, XE, XF series were a major generational step for Ford Australia and you can read our feature on them here.

This example is for sale in Canberra at $20,000.
