Restored classic

Holden's EJ wagon represented a major visual break from its predecessors with their clearly fifties-influenced styling, and put a line in the sand for the new decade – the 1960s.

However the mechanical links remained, as the 'old faithful' 138ci (2262cc) six, the grey motor, was still doing its job under the hood.

Transmissions were a choice of three-speed manual or three-speed Hydra-Matic.

Most significantly, this generation saw the introduction of the Premier nameplate and what was for the time a fairly luxurious car. See our feature on the first Premier.

Despite the success of this model (over 150,000 were made), you don't see huge numbers around – least of all in Station Sedan form.

This 1963 example is a Special with auto and claims a major restoration, though many original parts survive. With 79,000 miles (127,000km) on the odo, it's priced at $60,000 through Australian Muscle Car Sales and is located in WA.
