Sixties hardtop plus a matching Oz-assembled four door are a available

Ford's 1963 Fairlane always stretched Australians' understanding of the term 'compact' – it was indeed substantially smaller than the Galaxie, but was far bigger than 95 per cent of the cars then sold on the local market.

This was the fourth generation of the big cruiser, available in its home market as a two-door sedan, two-door hardtop, four-door sedan and station wagon. 

By this stage they were being assembled at three plants in the USA: California, Ohio and new Jersey. Plus, four-door sedans were being assembled in Australia and New Zealand.

The hardtop you see here is said to have been imported in 2000. It runs a 260ci V8 tied to the Ford-O-Matic auto of the period. 

Located in Melbourne, it's said to have undergone a full restoration and is on the market for $52,000.
