Last of the local imports

Mazda's RX-7 series has become legendary across the decades for several reasons. Prime among them was the fact it was the only series to make a roaring success of Wankel rotary engines.

Another god reason? They've always been a damned good drive. They may not have always been the quickest or best-handling car on the planet, but have neverthesless delivered very solid bang for your buck while offering a unique drive experience.

Prices on well-preserved early cars and one of two special editons have skyrocketed lately, though that hasn't necessarily spread to the entire group – meaning there's still some decent value out there.

This example iocated in NSW is a 1998 Series 7, or the last of the local imports. Series 8 was intended as a domestic-only model, though no doubt a few have found their way here as grey imports.

This car runs a five-speed manual and claims a little over 110,000km. It's priced at $85,000.
