Very original and impossibly clean Corolla twin cam

The fifth-generation E80 Toyota Corolla was a global heavy-hitter for the brand; with over 3 million units produced across seven different countries.

Australia produced them locally from 1985 to 1988, manufacturing five-door hatch and liftbacks. The sought after three-door "Hachiroku" was also offered with the single-cam 4AC motor; which powered most Corollas of this period down under.

The fitment of Toyota’s storied 4AGE twin-cam 16-valve fuel-injected 1.6lt midway through 1984, however, transformed the car into a true "hot hatch" of the time, and an absolutely sublime driving experience.

This mechanical package, in combination with the five-speed transaxle, also provided the architecture for the mid-engined MR2 which later arrived in 1985.

The twin cam Corolla has become a bit of a cult classic over time, and like most 80s Japanese cars, seem to have fallen off the face of the earth.

This 1986 AE82 Twin Cam however, looks to be a serious find – in unmodified and thoroughly original and well-kept condition!

The car has 225,000kms on the odometer, and looks to be in very good condition both outside and in.

The seller states that the car has received new gas struts for the rear hatch, and a new stainless steel muffler fitted. They point out a small rust patch near the fuel filler door, but stipulates that it hasn’t worsened over the past 20 years.

It looks to be an honest car and is certainly the nicest Corolla of this vintage we’ve seen in a while!

The seller is offering the car to market as they are moving interstate, and have too many cars to move. It’s said to be a regretful sale, stating that it used to belong to the owner’s late-father.

The little Corolla is based in Western Australia, and is listed for $7,000 (negotiable).
