Aussie Super Coupes: Big, Bold, Loud and Full of Attitude!

There was a time when you could walk into a dealership and buy a big muscular coupe from any of the three local outposts of the American Big Three: Ford Australia, GM-H and Chrysler.

In the right spec, they were convincing muscle cars that often became the stuff of legends.

These days, the automotive landscape looks very different – so we’ve ended up at a place where collector demand for these gems easily outstrips supply and the values have soared.

In Unique Cars Magazine #428, we get up close with three of the best: a national concours winner Monaro, a survivor Ford hardtop, and a much-loved Charger restomod.

We wrap up our massive Rolling 30 event at Sydney Motorsport Park at the start of June; which saw north of 160 cars and many more punters enjoying their cars amongst like-minded enthusiasts both on track and off! Highlight of the day has to go to the two Phase IV GT-HOs, including the sole surviving road car, out on track together for the first time ever!

We stick good friend John Bowe in a bona-fide Group B rally homologation, in the form of a Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione I. Apart from one of the longest names ever, it’s the very definition of a pocket rocket, with true motorsport provenance and giant-killing ability.

Further back, we tag along to Mustang Motorsport’s ‘Ultimate Track Day’ at Sandown Raceway. 50+ Ponies galloping on track with many more out back in the Show n Shine, the Mustang’s enduring charm seemingly hasn’t dropped an ounce – from old to new, modified from mild to wild, there was plenty to see and plenty to celebrate!

Our Reader’s Resto of the month comes courtesy of young Jadyn and Peter Bulloch, and their XC Falcon 500. The story begins around 7 years ago when Jadyn was just 13, and he and his father set out to buy a cheap project, with the car ended up being bolted together within a week of Jadyn’s school formal.
