Value to be had in American classics as prices lag behind our Aussie heroes

American classics are often lagging some ways behind equivalently aged Aussie cars, and as the price tags on our home-grown heroes continue to march north – one might expect an eventual increase in demand for reasonably priced US nostalgia cars.

We spied this 1975 Pontiac Trans Am on the classifieds and we reckon these things don’t get enough attention.

Our  Market Review pegs 1971-1981 Coupes with a median price of $31,200, but this one looks incredibly well-kept – almost looking factory fresh.

It has the dual outboard headlights that were swapped with quad square units in 1997, and is finished in striking Cameo White paint with blue firebird decals.

The seller claims it to be a numbers matching car, with a 400ci (6.6lt) V8 and a TH350 three-speed auto.

The car features a shaker hood, 10 bolt diff, air conditioning and power steering, and 15" Crager wheels.

It’s a striking thing, and an incredibly iconic shape to 70s babies everywhere.

At $39,990, it looks like pretty sweet buying when you compare the prices of any Australian-made 70s two-door hardtop, with anything close to a 6.6lt V8.

The car is on offer by Prestige Motor Gallery in NSW.
