Ford Falcon XB Surfsider - today's rare project tempter
This Ford Surfsider needs a bit of work to get it back on the road.

It's rare to hear about one of these, let alone see one. Back in the seventies, when Ford was looking for new niches, it came up with a number of youth market vans.

This, the Surfsider (there was also a Surferoo), featured a pop-top roof in fibreglass. This is in addition to the more conventional Sundowner.

We're told 100 were made and that the survival rate isn't high.

This example runs the 4.1lt (250ci) straight six with a three-speed manual transmission.

Now before you get too excited, just be warned the photograph here shows the car before the owner started dis-assembling it.

Since then, the front wings and a few other components have been removed, though they come with the car.

The owner says the rust isn't too bad. Located in Melbourne, it's priced at $15,000.
