Brit classic

Here's living proof you don't need to spend a fortune to get what would appear to be a solid running classic.

This 1962 Rover 100 is very late in the P4 series, which ran from 1949 all the way through to 1964.

By this time the car was running a 2.6lt inlet-over-exhaust straight six powerplant, good for 90-or so horsepower. It claimed a 100mph (160km/h) top speed, though period road tests put the number at a little over 90mph. In any case, a respectably quick car for its day.

The chassis included disc brakes up front and drum rear, with power assistance.

These mid-size Rovers were intended to be luxury transport without costing a fortune. Even now, support in form of clubs and specialist parts suppliers is fairly good.

This example is near Brisbane and is on the market for $18,900.
