V8 and a relatively cheap entry into Aussie classics

The AU Falcon has always been a polarising generation in the Falcon ranks, because it was as reliable and dependable as it was unappealing to many in lower-spec trims.

One way to make an AU more interesting though is the addition of eight cylinders, and if that isn’t enough – this one also used to belong to the boys and girls in blue.

It’s a 2000 year build making it a Series 2, presented in white with 202,000km on the clock. The key part here though is the reference to the car being an ‘Option 20’ pack, a code used by Ford to define the police package Falcons that rolled off of the production line in Broadmeadows.

Being an XR8 it’s equipped with the good old Windsor 5.0-litre V8, the last of the pushrod V8 Fords sold in Australia with 185kw to boot through the four-speed auto.

Australians do love to flock to ex-police vehicles, particularly in the classic car market. Just look at the prices of canary yellow BT1 VL Commodore turbos (assuming you can even find one). This means that an ex-Police XR8 may be the smarter investment over other examples, especially because an XR8 is more than likely an ex-Highway Patrol bruiser.

The car is offered at $13,000 with six months NSW rego and RWC. You can view the listing here.
