1958 Chevrolet Biscayne – Today’s Tempter

Fully restored to mostly original specification: immaculately presented

Australian-produced full-size American cars traded on their image of luxury and opulence, but most often were only available in poverty-pack specification and usually in the most pedestrian four-door body configuration.

Chevrolet’s Biscayne name was aimed primarily at the fleet market, offering affordable no-frills motoring in a luxurious-looking roomy full-size package. Overseas, the ’58 range included the top-tier BelAir as well as Impalas, Delrays as well as various station wagon configurations labelled as Brookwoods and Yeomans.

Australian-assembled Biscayne’s were exclusively available in four-door specification and with only six-cylinder engines available to buyers.

The Biscayne coupe on sale here is most likely an American-import, presenting immaculately as a rare-for-Australia two-door coupe and with factory 283ci V8.

It’s been fully restored inside and out; complimented by disc brakes up front, a four-barrel carburettor (tuned to unleaded) and a neat reupholstery inside.

Overall the car presents immaculately throughout with seemingly nothing left to spend. If you’re after an American classic to make a statement in – this 1958 Biscayne might be worth a look!
