Affordable classic: four-speed manual, neat body and paint, drives well

When the humble Datsun 1200 landed down under, it did so in great numbers – roaming the roads shifting opinion on Japanese-made cars.

Talk to anyone who grew up around cars in the 70s and 80s – most of them owned a Datto at some point.

But for all their prevalence in decades past, the number of good survivors out there are dwindling.

Many were modified over the years, and many more simply rusted away.

Utes especially have always been popular with enthusiasts for their contrasting size and utility.

They make a great ‘first classic’, as they’re reliable, simple to work on and boast a devout following of passionate enthusiasts with the know-how in keeping these little troopers on the road.

This Datsun 1200 Ute presents as a great useable base for a project, or a neat cruiser as it is!

The body looks incredibly neat and straight, with the listing stating "immaculate paint and panel".

It looks to be very original and clean overall, with the factory correct A12 1.2lt engine and four-speed manual.

The brown vinyl interior presents in decent nick; it’s all there with pristine doorcards, thought the dash does appear to have a few cracks.

It’s in running condition and sits on the factory steelies that have been widened and powdercoated, with new tyres up front.

The Datsun ute is listed for $10,000 and is based in South Australia.
