Preview of the next Shannons auction gets us geared up for next year's calendar

Excitement is already building for next year's auction calendar.

Shannons has been quick to tease us with some very tempting classics already set to appear in their 2019 Melbourne Summer Classic Auction.

Taking place on February 18, we're still a while away - but who knows. Maybe that's enough time for us to save our pennies for one of these two eye-catching machines!

1978 FORD FALCON XC V8 MANUAL

I can’t imagine Ford dealers being knocked over in the rush for an XC wagon in this spec. But one petrol head figured out they could buy something outside of the box.

Sold by John Price Ford in Myrtleford (Vic), this Sno White (same as the Cobra) 1978 Ford Fairmont GS Rally Pack wagon has bonnet scoops, bumper overriders, a sports steering wheel and enhanced instrumentation.

GXL alloys are fitted and it has the two-way tailgate. Powering this lot is a 302 V8 and four-slot manual, the perfect combo for lugging the family about in style and with a good deal of mumbo.

It is a rare car and comes with a production confirmation letter from Ford.

1985 Mazda RX 7 Series III

One of the pin-up cars of the 1980’s, Mazda RX-7 posters adorned many bedroom walls of young blokes now cashed up and ready to buy.

So if you want a first-generation Mazda RX-7, get in now.

Prices are up substantially from a few years ago - and will only continue to rise - and in 2018 the RX-7 was one of the hottest properties in the collector market.

This Series 3 was found five years ago and sports period correct alloy wheels and a sports exhaust. The hatch has been tinted. Its white paint has been refreshed but the car remains largely untouched and original including its brown cloth interior, which is in good condition.

It is being sold with no reserve.
