Supercars sell at Shannons
HSVs get solid money
Tonight's Melbourne late Spring auction at Shannons saw two very desirable modern supercars find new homes. An R32 Nissan Skyline (a locally-delivered car) changed hands for $57,000, which represented solid buying.
Also looking like good value was the 1982 Porsche 930 turbo (also locally-delivered) for $190,000.
Both are internationally desirable models and should do well over the long term.
Of particular interest in the local market was the very strong bidding chasing a low-mile 2001 Holden HSV GTS VX in excellent condition.
The fact it is build number one no doubt helped to reach a sale price of $77,000.
Speaking of HSV, a rare Coupe 4 in tidy condition with a Harrop supercharger sold for $87,000.
Meanwhile, on the more modest end of the scale, a one-owner 1975 Beetle went for $13,000 - good buying.
We also reckon the 1982 Nissan TRX Turbo sedan at $18,500 was a pretty good punt.
Alfa Romeo GTVs continue to score solid numbers, with tonights example fetching $36,000.
The prize for the quirky lot of the night went to the 1950s Lambretta 3-wheeler commercial, which scored a very solid $21,000.
Australian cars had a reasonable night, with an impressive $46,500 paid for Holden FJ utility.
Vintage machinery also pulled respectable numbers, with a 1923 Vauxhall 23/60 tourer fetching $70,000.
Not to be forgotten was a very special car, a 1960 Mercedes-Benz 220 SE Ponton cabriolet, which went for $245,000.
Notable for being the first post-WII series, they're in demand across the globe and cabriolet versions like this are rare.
