Classic British sports car cracks the big six-zero

Caterham, maker of one of the most iconic British sports cars in the country’s history, the Seven, celebrated the vehicles sixtieth birthday by congregating six of the Sevens most prolific models.

The clan gathering took place at Longcross test track in the UK, and the six models in attendance were an original Lotus Seven Series 1, Lotus Seven Twin Cams, CSR 260, Seven ‘Prisoner Edition’ VVC, Superlight R500, Sprint and 620S.

"What a great line-up; an apt number of Sevens, all of which have made their mark in Caterham’s history. It’s great to see how the Series 1 has been developed over the years – you don’t get a better accolade than becoming a Top Gear track icon," says Caterham Cars CEO, Graham Macdonald

Macdonald is referring to the Caterham Superlight R500 performing both a blisteringly quick lap time of 1m 17.9 seconds around the famous Top Gear test track back in 2008, and in the process becoming Top Gear’s 2008 ‘Car of the Year’.

"Over the 60 years of the Seven, we’ve never lost Colin Chapman’s engineering essence – a lightweight, high-powered machine that is fit-for-purpose. Every Seven provides a raw, pure, fun driving experience like no other vehicle. Long may it continue for the next 60 years."
