Massive levels of want!

Tickford is celebrating 40 years since Ford’s amazing one-two finish at Bathurst the only way they know how; by creating an awesome homage Mustang.

Called the ’77 Special, the Mustang has been given a modernised interpretation of the classic livery that emblazoned the victorious factory XC Falcon hardtops of 1977 piloted by Allan Moffat and Colin Bond.

The livery can also be had with an optional race number sticker pack and replica rear wing for the full-fat, race car effect.

In addition to the livery, the limited run ‘Stang will feature a host of bespoke componentry which Tickford says have been "engineered to provide a special and individual experience".

For a start, Tickford has added a supercharger to the Mustang’s 5.0lt Coyote V8 and says it has re-tuned it to produce a shedload more power and torque. Although Tickford hasn’t quoted power figures yet, expect them to be sizeable.

Inside, the Mustang retains the full OEM leather interior with, according to Tickford, a unique Bathurst ’77 Special treatment, including XC Hardtop red and blue stitching on the bucket seats and a bespoke steering wheel.

The ’Stang special will also get Tickford 20-inch wheels painted in a distinct shade of gold to keep in line with the original race car.

Tickford hasn’t been alone in their pursuit to produce a fitting celebratory model though; It’s had some help from the man that put the Blue Oval on the top step at Mount Panorama four decades ago, Mr Allan Moffat.

"It is hard to believe it has been 40 years since Colin and I finished one-two at Bathurst but while I recall the race as if it were yesterday, it is nice to know it holds such a special place with so many people all these years on," says Moffat.

"The team at Tickford have done a very thorough job coming up with a modern interpretation of my 1977 XC Hardtop. While the Falcon has sadly been consigned to the history books, the Mustang was always one of my favourite cars to race and I had considerable success in them. Ford have done a great job with the latest one."

There will only be 77 of the specials made by Tickford, and each will receive unique Moffat signature cabin badging.

Full prices and specs are yet to be confirmed by Tickford, but the ’77 Special looks like it’s going to another excellent addition to its Mustang product range, which includes the 360 Power Pack we drove earlier this year.
