Vintage and Prestige are proud to offer this 1955 Lancia Aurelia B24 Spider America by Pinin Farina For Sale Registration: 804 UYJ Chassis no: B24-1049 Engine no: B24-1135 Only 240 of the Spider Americas were built and this example is just 1 of 59 right hand drive examples made. 118 bhp, 2,451 cc V-6 engine with dual Weber carburettors, four-speed manual transmission, independent sliding pillar front and semi-trailing arm and coil-spring rear suspension, and four-wheel drum brakes. Wheelbase: 2,450 mm Lancias first post-war car, the revolutionary Aurelia, appeared in 1950. Its combination of the first production V-6 engine with a balanced transaxle gearbox and inboard rear brakes were revelations in post-war Europe. The initial B10 saloon was quickly followed by a coupé, the B20, which was built on a shortened platform. Although the Aurelia was built with a semi-unitary body, a platform for coachbuilders (the B50) was also offered, on which Pinin Farina built a four-seat cabriolet. However, it was felt that a proper open two-seater sport model was required, especially for the U.S. market. The answer was the B24 Spider America, which was launched in 1954. Pinin Farinas shapely roadster was built on a wheelbase that had been shortened a further 210 millimetres from the coupé, and it featured a dogleg wraparound windshield and side curtains, with no external handles for doors or the boot to interrupt the almost liquid lines. As Lancia had established itself in the early 1950s as a force in international competition, it is not surprising that hints of the marques D24 racing car could be seen in the look of the new sport car. The Spider America offered here is recorded by historian Francesco Gandolfi as having been originally delivered in red with a tan interior and right-hand drive. It was formerly owned by Carla Liverani, who had inherited it from her brother. Ms Liverani eventually sold the Lancia to Fabrizio Verzaro, who passed it to well-known Spider America restorer Giancarlo Kappa. Mr Kappa proceeded to restore the car in the mould of B24-1021, the right-hand-drive special that Lancia and Pinin Farina built for Guido Maria Terzi, the brother-in-law of famous Lancia privateer driver Ingegner Ippocampo Castiglioni. The car was equipped with dual driving lights, which were useful for the Mille Miglia, and a 1955 B20-style dashboard with easy-to-view Jaeger instruments, including a tachometer. The car remains in excellent overall condition and includes fine paintwork, upholstery, and chrome trim throughout. As presented, it is equipped with Tour de France-style seats, with the original seats being supplied loose with the car. It is fitted with the desirable Nardi kit, which includes the dual Weber carburettors, and it rides on polished chrome wheels with special hubcaps, like the ones fitted to the car that was presented at the Brussels Motor Show in 1955. All of the numbers on the car are noted to correspond with the original data card. Information provided has been supplied from an official appraisal. This car is also finished in its original colour combination. Offered here is an original right-hand-drive car in the market for which it is most well suited. It is equipped with the desirable Nardi kit and has numerous features that are reminiscent of those on one of the most famous racing Lancias of its time. The car has ASI and FIVA passports, making it Mille Miglia eligible, and it would be a thrilling drive on a twisting Italian road or a straight British motorway. • Auction: 5th Sep 2018 - RM Sotheby's - London Auction

To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION at RM Sothebys' London event, 5 September 2018. Outfitted with a number of interesting, racing-inspired featuresRestored by Lancia Specialist Giancarlo Kappa for his personal useDesirable Nardi kit with dual carburettors The Aurelia was Lancias first post-war car, and those who were technically minded figured out in short order that Lancia was moving in the right direction. In addition to the first production V-6 engine, the Aurelia boasted a transaxle gearbox and inboard rear brakes. Following the initial saloon and the coupé, an open two-seater, dubbed the B24 Spider America, would be the most memorable and desirable model of the series. With a 2,451-mm chassis, shortened 210 mm from the already shortened Aurelia coupé wheelbase, it was charming and quintessentially Italian. With a wraparound windshield, side curtains in place of windows and no external door latches, Pinin Farina did an excellent job styling an automobile that was equal parts sporting and luxurious. Bythe time production transitioned to the more luxurious B24 convertible, only 240 Spider Americas were built. As the new B24 convertible added weight in fitting roll-up windows, higher doors, a more upright windshield and more interior furnishings, those looking to drive and enjoy their new Lancia Convertible much preferred the lithe Spider America, and it has remained a favourite of enthusiasts to this day.Aurelia historian Francesco Gandolfi noted that this particular Spider America was originally produced sporting red paintwork with a tan interior and RHD configuration. It was formerly owned by Carla Liverani, who had inherited it from her brother. She would eventually sell chassis no. 1049 to Fabrizio Verzaro, and in turn the car was sold to Giancarlo Kappa, a well-known restorer of Spider Americas. Looking to make this car stand out from the crowd, Kappa decided to restore the car in the image of B24-1021, another right-hand-drive Spider America that was built by Lancia and Pinin Farina forGuido Maria Terzi, brother-in-law of noted Lancia privateer racer Ingerner Ippocampo Castiglioni. That car was driven on the Mille Miglia and was fitted with several interesting features, including dual driving lights and a 1955 B20-style dashboard with Jaeger instruments, including a tachometer.Kappa was planning on restoring the Spider America to drive and enjoy, and then return to its original specifications when it was sold; chassis no. 1049 was instead sold as-completed to an Italian collector before being acquired by its current owner in the UK in 2014. Later that year, the Spider America was sent to specialist Thornley Kelham for some mechanical refurbishment, which included servicing the brakes, suspension, engine and a thorough detailing of the undercarriage. Fitted with the desirable Nardi kit and equipped with Tour de France style seats, with the original seat accompanying the car, the car also sports chrome wheels with special hub caps, similar to those seen on the Spider America debutat the 1955 Brussels Motor Show. All of the numbers on the car are noted to correspond with the original data card released from Registro Aurelia, from the body numbers to the engine and the differential, and a copy of the card is on file, along with copies of older Italian registration documents. This lovely Spider America would surely be a joy to drive and enjoy, boasting several welcome features and upgrades to enhance its already lovely driving experience. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/LF18.

  • Auction: 5th Sep 2018 - RM Sotheby's - London Auction

To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION at RM Sothebys' London event, 5 September 2018. One of just 312 B20 2.5-litres built for the 1958 model yearComplete with 1996 FIVA ID card; previously registered with ASI The Vittorio Jano-designed Lancia Aurelia was a truly revolutionary design, combining high levels of performance luxury into one attractive and compact package. First offered in 1950 in B10 Berlina guise and joined by the B20 GT two-passenger coupé in 1951, the Aurelia created an immediate sensation. The brainchild of Lancia engineer Francesco de Virgilio, the Aurelia is also considered the first production automobile to utilise V-6 power. A rear transaxle, a four-wheel independent suspension and radial-ply tyres, a very sporting specification in its day, rounded out the mechanical specification. The sleek B20 GT Coupé debuted in 1951, and that year placed 2nd in the Mille Miglia and secured a class victory at Le Mans. A podium sweep in the 1952 Targa Florio was followed by victory in the 1953Liège-Rome-Liège Rally in 1953, handily securing the Aurelias status as a 1950s sporting great.By 1958, the Lancia Aurelia B20 GT coupé was equipped with a solid 2.5-litre engine, as compared to the 1.8 litre that Jano had originally designed. Offered here, this B20 GT is one of these desirable Series 5, and has proven its worth in many historical events. This B20 GT Coupé is the perfect companion for a driver who wishes to enjoy the pleasures of one of the worlds first gran turismo cars.To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/LF18.
