The Delta Integrale was born out of the ban on Group B rally cars. The Lancia won 10 victories out of 11 rallies and the world title in WRC in 1988. The eight valve Delta had won, ahead of every rival in every continent, demonstrating its unrivalled performance, reliability and durability. But Lancia did not let this lull them into complacency. The 16 valve HF Integrale was being developed and was to run alongside its stablemate during the 1989 season. The new car was identifiable from its predecessor by the raised centre of the bonnet created to accommodate the new 16 valve engine. The other exterior changes were; wider arches, wheels, tyres and new identity badges at the front and rear. The 16 valve Integrale was first shown to the public at the 1989 Geneva Motor Show. Further development of the 16V engine included a Garrett T3 Turbocharger, larger injectors and a highly efficient intercooler. A new overboost provided 200bhp and 137mph performance with a 0-62mph time of 5.5 seconds. Brisk, evenby todays standards. The road going Integrale is spirited and reliable and great fun to drive, rewarding the driver with superb feedback and outstanding rally bred handling power. This Lancia Delta has recently been imported from New Zealand and prior to that it lived in Japan for a number of years. Unusually for a car that has travelled the world it is supplied with a host of paperwork and invoices. Clearly the owner in New Zealand was smitten with this car as he spent large sums maintaining the car. In 2012, she had an engine rebuild and in January 2019 over $26,600 (£13,500) was spent at Euromarque in Christchurch ensuring this car presents in the highest possible standard. Finished in red with black leather trim and supplied with a V5C registration document together with an MoT test certificate valid until 11th February 2020 and an impressive history file. This Lancia Delta Integrale 16V is virtually unmarked and is one of the finest examples available today.

Lancia was founded in November 1906 in by Vincenzo Lancia and his friend Claudio Fogolin, both Fiat racing drivers. The first Lancia, the Tipo 51 or 12HP was constructed in 1907. Sadly, in 1937, Vincenzo died and his wife and son, Gianni Lancia, took over the firm. The innovativeness, constant quest for excellence, the fixation of quality and complication of the construction processes together with the antiquated machinery meant that all cars, essentially, had to be handmade. These models were mid-engined sports cars produced from 1975 through to 1982. Cars from 1975 to 1978 were known as Lancia Beta Montecarlos and the latter cars, produced from 1979 to 1982, simply as Lancia Montecarlos. Both series were offered in coupé and spider versions and designed by Pininfarina. This lovely example is presented in white with blue cloth interior and was found by a friend of the owner in Italy. We are informed the car is very original apart from having a full repaint at some point. The previous owner had thecar serviced and fitted with a new cambelt and had some work done on the brakes. Also, new Dunlop tyres were recently fitted. When the present owner brought the car back to the UK he had it thoroughly looked over by Lancia Montecarlo specialist, Darren Cooksey. All the brake calipers were stripped, cleaned and rebuilt, a tie rod bush was replaced, the steering rack was rebuilt and the wheel alignment took place. The coolant was replaced along with a new thermostat. The owner also had the throttle bush and linkage replaced along with all the gear linkage bushes which we understand were both common faults on this model. The roof straps and a door trim were also replaced. The vendor states this Lancia drives superbly and is still exciting on country roads, particularly as one feels so close to the ground when in the cockpit.
