The 25th Anniversary was the final production model of the Lamborghini Countach, introduced in 1988 to honour the companies 25th anniversary and produced only until 1990 when Countach production ceased to make way for the new Diabolo. Mechanically it was very similar to the existing 5000QV, however the most notable changes were to the exterior. The original Bertone body work, penned by the legendary Marcello Gandini, received a make over by Horacio Pagani, now of course a legendary supercar manufacturer in his own right. Interior refinement was also improved and now featured electric windows, electrically adjustable seats and an improved air conditioning system. This particular example was first registered on 7th December 1989, supplied by then Lamborghini sole UK concessionaires Portman. A stunning example supplied with a very comprehensive history file. The penultimate owners tenure lasted nearly 18 years. The file shows he clearly cherished the car and when not being used it was stored in adehumidified storage facility. Like most Countach owners his usage was low, however there are invoices on file totalling just short of 20,000 during his ownership. Finished in surely the best colour combination and looking all the better for being supplied without a rear wing. Upon seeing the words 'Poster Car' the chances are one singular car popped into your head, Lamborghini's seminal Countach. The rear-mid engined V12 animal was produced from 1974 to 1990 and helped to popularise the now widespread cab-forward design concept which pushed the passenger compartment forward in order to accommodate a larger rear-mounted engine. Designed by the absolutely legendary Marcello Gandini, who can count the Lamborghini Miura & Diablo, the Lancia Stratos, the Bugatti EB110 and Renault 5 Turbo among his designs; the car features an instantly recognisable silhouette famous for its angular and aggressive exterior that is a firm fixture amongst most car enthusiast's favourite cars of all time. The Countach has the honour of being the first production car to feature the Scissor Doors that Lamborghini is now so heavily associated with. The car is constructed from aircraft-grade aluminium over a tubular space frame, this led to it being incredibly strong and light in an age before thewidespread use of composites. However, this lead to very high and wide door sills, thus the scissor doors were implemented as operating regular doors in an even remotely confined space wasn't possible on the Countach. The car is RWD, driven by a rear-mid V12 mounted longitudinally (a contrast to the Miura's transversely mounted engine.). Early cars utilised the Miura's 4.0L engine, though this evolved over time to 4754cc before US Spec cars abandoned carburettors, instead opting for Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection on the 5000QV's 5167cc engine that featured 4 valves per cylinder; Euro spec cars retained the Carburettors. The car we are offering is an example of the 5000QV, a Californian car complete with aforementioned Bosh Fuel Injection. The engine was bored and stroked to 5176 cc and given 4 valves per cylinder, hence the name Quattrovalvole. The car also featured use of Kevlar body panels, as well as a new digital interface for the interior ventilation. Our example was delivered in 1987 toCalifornia before making its way to the UK in 1991. Records show that the car was registered in June of 1991. The history folder is absolutely enviable. Service invoices start in 1991 and show regular service work through the 90's and 00's. Most recently the car underwent an entire engine rebuild, leaving it as new. The invoices from the engine rebuild show over 25,000 worth of parts and labour went into the car; the engine was removed and stripped, all valves were cleaned and ground; sump, crank and oil lines were all cleared & the head was repaired and reassembled. Conrods, engine gaskets, bushes, seals, exhaust valves, inlet valves, bearings, shims, oil filter mount, spark plugs, EGR hose and Alternator Drive Belt were all replaced. It would be rude to deprive your inner child of the chance to own a Lamborghini Countach, very rarely does an example of this calibre come to market. Don't miss out!

  • Auction: 24th/25th Aug 2018 - RM Sotheby's - Monterey Auction

To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION at RM Sothebys' Monterey event, 24 - 25 August 2018. One of 610 5000 QVs producedBelieved to be the only example delivered to the U.S. that year in Giallo Fly over White leatherAnti-smog air pump removed but included with the saleSigned by Lamborghini test driver Valentino BalboniLess than 14,000 km/8,700 miles from new After you dazzle the automotive world with your first supercar the Lamborghini Miura what do you do for an encore? In the case of Lamborghini, you introduce the sensational Countach. First shown in prototype form at the Geneva Motor Show in 1971 as the LP500, it wowed show goers and the motoring press alike. The production version arrived in 1974 with the moniker Countach LP400. Large-scale photos of it quickly became the dorm room poster of choice alongside Farrah Fawcett, both quickly becoming icons of the disco era. The name Countach a vaguely vulgar Torinese exclamation of astonishment was unabashedly appropriate. Remarkably, it remained in productionover 16 years through four model generations. The striking origami shape was attributed to Marcello Gandini of Bertone Design. The various scoops, scallops, and spoilers were deemed necessary to adequately cool the 4.0-liter, 375-bhp V-12mounted midship. Engineers fitted the Countach with semi-gullwing scissor doors, which have since become de rigueur. This was truly the supercar of and for the 1980s. The 5000 Quattrovalvole, introduced in 1985, upped engine capacity to 5,157 cc along with four-valve cylinder heads, increasing horsepower from 375 bhp to 420. Suspension and brakes were revised along with a 0.9-in. increase in wheelbase, too. A total of only 610 were produced. This striking example was originally imported to the U.S. by Lamborghini distributor Joe Nastasi, a noted and prominent collector of Italian sports and racing cars. It is believed to be the only 1988 example painted Giallo Fly and trimmed with a dazzling white leather interior. Factory air conditioning and the distinctiveoptional rear wing are fitted. Lamborghini test driver Valentino Balboni has signed the car, adding to its uniqueness and desirability. To aid in both parking and rear visibility, the radio head unit has been upgraded with a rear camera. The consignor purchased this car in 2007, selling it in 2009 to another collector who put just 300 miles on the car before purchasing it back from him in 2012. In total it has traveled less than 14,000 km (8,700 miles) from new. Having lived a pampered life, the consignor notes that it has been recently serviced and runs great. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/MO18.

  • Auction: 24th/25th Aug 2018 - RM Sotheby's - Monterey Auction

To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION at RM Sothebys' Monterey event, 24 - 25 August 2018. Desirable low-body CountachOne of just 105 Series II examples producedRetains its original engine; showing less than 35,000 kmRecent comprehensive, multi-year restorationSigned by Valentino Balboni Please note that this lot is titled as a 1982. Quite possibly the most recognizable automotive design on the planet, the Lamborghini Countach has stood the test of time as the quintessential supercar. Debuting at the 1971 Geneva Motor Show, the Countach struck an instant chordfitting, as its name is a Piedmontese expression meaning stupendous, magnificent, or splendid (politely translated). Marcello Gandini was again put in charge of penning the companys new flagship. The design was a drastic departure from the Miuras gentle sweeping curves and elegant proportions. Instead, an aggressive wedge shape formed the basis of the silhouette and sharp lines constitute the remaining styling cues. This design also marked the debut ofLamborghinis most iconic feature, the scissor doors. Like nothing else on the road, the Countach was a quantum leap forward in automotive language. Lamborghinis developments did not end with the styling, however. The Countach utilized a tubular space frame chassis and aircraft-grade aluminum body. As a result, the vehicle was incredibly strong and light despite its size. Initially premiered with a 5.0-liter V-12 engine in the prototypes and show cars, the production LP400 models came with the 4.0-liter from the Miura. Power was rated at 370 hp and 266 foot-pounds of torque. The first update came to the Countach after Canadian F1 team owner Walter Wolf sought to increase the performance of his own personal car. He enlisted the help of chief Lamborghini engineer Gianpaolo Dallara to modify the car by installing a 5.0-liter engine and much larger Pirelli P7 tires. In order to fit the massive tires, the bodywork and suspension geometry had to be extensively altered. Wolf eventually convinced Lamborghinito commercialize his modifications, and so the LP400 S was born. Not all of the Wolf upgrades, however, made it onto the series production cars. Official S models received the fender flares, chin spoiler, wider tires, and revised suspension, but not the larger engine. Later on, the popular V-shaped wing was added to the options list after demand grew. Lamborghini would continue to develop and upgrade the Countach throughout the 1980s. In 1982, the LP500 S was released with a 4,754-cc engine. The 5000 Quattrovalvole was put on sale in 1985 with continued engine evolutions. The final rendition of the Countach arrived in 1988 with the celebration of the companys 25th anniversary. These models received extensive body restyling thanks to Horacio Pagani. The Series II Countach LP400 S offered here is a rare car, one of 105 low-body models, that preserves the lowered suspension, ride height, and body of the earlier LP400. It was the subject of a recent comprehensive, multi-year restoration by the expertsat Evans Automotive in Columbus, Ohio. The consignor notes that over $250,000-plus was spent on the cosmetic and mechanical restoration, which was completed no more than 200 miles ago. As a result, the vehicle is in impeccable condition throughout and includes new correct tires as well as a proper Ansa Sport exhaust. Receipts documenting the work will accompany the sale along with the original owners manual as well as the original spare wheel and tire. The Alpine stereo continues to function correctly, while the air conditioning has been upgraded and blows ice-cold air. Retaining its original engine and transmission, the Countach only shows less than 35,000 km on the odometer. A Countach of this condition is an exceptional example to round off any serious collection. To view this car and others currently consigned to this auction, please visit the RM website at rmsothebys.com/en/auctions/MO18.
