1937 Derby Bentley 4.25 Liter Overdrive MR Series for sale. Chassis number: B-74-MR Registration number: GS8516 One of only 200 M Series overdrive cars built. This Derby Bentley 4.25 is fitted with the standard high ratio rear axle making for very long legged and rapid cruising at modern day speeds. The Derby Bentley 4.25 was re-bodied in 1978 to a James Young design as a two seater drop head, replacing the original Mulliner 2 door Saloon coachwork that had come to the end of its useful life. The aluminum coachwork is very elegant with a sweeping tail line giving a streamlined fastback appearance with the roof down. The Derby Bentley 4.25 has an easily erected black canvas hood that stows in the boot or behind the rear seats. The Derby Bentley 4.25 is finished in two tone mid blue over dark blue. To the interior is black leather matched with black carpets. The wooden dash board is recently refinished and contains the full complement of the usual instrumentation. Mechanically the Derby Bentley 4.25 is in fine order with the engine having been fully overhauled and rebuilt by noted Marque specialists, Ristes of Nottingham just 13,000 miles ago. The Derby Bentley 4.25 comes with extensive records from the last decades attesting to regular servicing and fettling. The engine starts readily and is a quiet powerful unit. This, combined with the light weight coachwork makes it a fast touring car well suited to rallies and long distance travel. .. 1947 Bentley Mark VI Windovers DHC. Chassis Number: B-108-AK Registartion number: JFO394 Chassis number B108AK was completed in August of 1947 to the order of Sir Alexander Rogers KBE. The Bentley was bodied as a drophead coupe by the respected coachbuilding firm of Windovers. Founded in 1856 in Huntingdon but from 1924 based in North West London, Windovers diversified into the manufacture of motor bodies in the early 1900s, concentrating on quality marques chiefly Daimler and Rolls-Royce at first before adding the likes of Alvis, Armstrong-Siddeley, Lagonda, Lanchester, Mercedes-Benz, and Bentley to its portfolio in the 1930s. The coachwork is believed to be unique, with a disappearing hood design, concealed when lowered by a panel of folding coachwork, which is secured with a coach key. It is understood that this particular body - number '6645' to Design '101' - is one of the last, if not the very last, built by Windovers. B108AK changed hands in 1950 when purchased by Brook Tool Ltd of Birmingham, and then again in 1952 when purchased by R and W H Symington Ltd of Market Harborough. It was acquired in 1958 by Mr R V Fontes of Knutsford in Cheshire, and at some time in the mid/late 1980s was sold by David Baldock, as a restoration project, to Merrick Edwardes. B108AK had been in Canada for many years, was complete in every respect but needed a full restoration. Merrick Edwardes intended to restore the Bentley for his own use, but after a great deal of persuasion sold the car to Peter Channing and restored it for him during the early 1990s. The bills associated with the restoration are eye watering to say the least. This thorough restoration included a new ash frame, coachwork restoration, brightwork restoration and re-plating, a new hood and interior, and also extensive mechanical works. Mr Channing also wanted to upgrade the car with a 4½-litre Bentley R-Type engine and automatic transmission (the original engine had a cracked block and was unserviceable). A donor R-Type was purchased (chassis number 'B236WH') and the engine, gearbox, and steering column were removed, overhauled and fitted to 'B108AK' as per Mr Channing's instructions. At the same time the engine was modified for increased power and torque to this end Oselli Engineering gas flowed the cylinder head and an R-Type Continental exhaust was fitted. Following the completion of the works, the car was carefully maintained and serviced to a very high standard. Recently a new dark green Mohair hood was fitted & the spectacular burr walnut woodwork refurbished to show standard. The car was also mechanically reviewed and prepared by Marque spcialists Frank Dale & Stepsons of West London. It is in close to concours condition & will do well anywhere it is shown. The boot lid has had modern Gas Struts fitted to ease in opening & closing it. Presented in Brewster Green in show winning condition, this rare coachbuilt Bentley MkVI drophead comes with a complete selection of original small and large tools, and an extensive history file documenting the works carried out over the past 20 years. On the road it drives beautifully with notably more performance then a Standard Mark VI & a very long legged gait due to the 12.40 ratio rear axle. You really have to see & drive this car to appreciate how well it reflects the Monniker of "The Silent Sportscar." A gallery of large high-resolution pictures may be viewed on our website. Vintage and Prestige are proud to offer this 1938 Bentley 4.25 litre MR 'Overdrive' Brougham de Ville by James Young For Sale. Registration: FGW 386 Chassis no: B38MR Engine no: This exceptionally stylish car is almost certainly the work of A.F. McNeil, the most influential British of coachwork during the great days of coachbuilding. He started his career with Gurney Nutting in 1919 and moved to James Young in 1937. He was still active in 1965 when he won a Gold Medal for the James Young Phantom V exhibited at the London Motor Show. B38MR was built for the London Motor Show of 1938 and is illustrated in both The Motor and Autocar show editions. It is also to be seen in the Jack Barclay colour catalogue of that year, the current livery of Green/Black can been seen in this catalogue. Although featured in the catalogue, this is in fact 1 of only 2 examples built. It is curious to note that whilst James Young, who incidentally were taken over by Jack Barclay in 1937, describe the style as a Brougham de Ville, the Bentley records however refer to the styling as a Barouchi de Ville. The car was originally envisaged by the designer as a Sedanca Coupé with a sliding top. It is obvious that this arrangement was not practical without raising the roof line. It is believed that it was originally equipped with a one piece tarag top which has now been converted to a three piece top to enable convenient storage in the boot. B38MR was purchased at the Motor Show by the Marquess of Dufferin and Ava who was married to a Guiness heiress. The Marquess kept the car until the outbreak of WW2 when it passed into the hands of R.R. Costain Esq. Mr Costain appears to have used the car throughout the war. Next the Derby passed to Sir Geoffrey Winterbotham in 1946 and three other owners are recorded until 1957. At this point the B38MR was shipped to America where she resided for 30 years until returning to the UK in the late 80s. Charles Howard supplied FGW 386 in the late 90s and since she has had extensive restoration works carried out which is heavily documented in the history file. All of the marque experts have tweaked and fettled this MR resulting in a beautifully driving and powerful car. Only 200 M series overdrive Bentleys were produced until the outbreak of WW2 halted production, to many they are known as the pinnacle of the Derby range thanks to the overdrive gearbox allowing greater speed with lower revolutions, the steering was also vastly improved with the addition of a Miles steering box. Thanks to recent works the paintwork is finished beautifully, the colour combination is certainly striking and finished to a very high standard. The roof itself is a work of art, you can leave the font completely open and exposed or cover this with the 2 side pillars and mohair roof. Also the three piece hardtop which easily slides together and fixes in place, with or without the roof the body lines are exceptional. When you open the doors you are instantly notice the beautifully designed interior. You notice more details in the cappings every time you look, the Connolly leather is beautifully patinated and well fed. This stunning and rare Derby truly wants for nothing, in our showroom ready for viewing. A gallery of large high-resolution pictures may be viewed on our website. 1929 Bentley 4½-Litre (5.3) Supercharged Tourer Recreation by Graham Moss. Chassis Number: RC2209 Registration number: SV8387 An exacting Recreation by renowned expert Graham Moss finished in August of 2000. This car was built up on an RC chassis using as many original components as possible to ultimate blower Bentley Specification. During the process the engine was upgraded to 5.3 litre capacity with as many original components as possible; when they were not available, they were remanufactured, often to improved, more powerful or durable versions of the original designs. The car was built around a new 130-in. wheelbase chassis, with some original components. Its engine was created from the best available parts, including a new 5.3-liter cylinder block with a new magnesium Birkin Blower racing-style crankcase and winged sump, counterbalanced billet crankcase and connecting rods, modern shell bearings and forged pistons, and a new, correct supercharger. The engine is mated to an original 4½-Litre D type gearbox, with overdrive fitted for easy highway use, and a 3-Litre steering box converted to 4½-Litre specifications. The front axle and steering arms are also original components, as are the back axle casing, the self-wrapping brakes, the instruments, the dynamo and starter motor, and the pedal shaft, while the brake drums and wheels were remanufactured to original specifications. Invoices for Moss work on file deeply detail the level of workmanship invested into this dream project. This Bentley will make a fantastic rally machine or simply a sorted fast road car for the annual dash down to LeMans. We will conduct a full photo shoot upon its arrival in December. .. 1950 Bentley Racing Green Alpine Special. Chassis number: Registration number: 1OAZ764 (Belgian.) As new with 1000 running in miles completed; This car was purchased for the collections owners wife but was never used. As a result it is in factory new condition. Racing Green on their wonderful web site describe the model thus: "The late 1930's saw Bentley Motors produce high performance touring cars for owners wishing to explore the roads of Continental Europe. The cars mainly left the factory in chassis form and the leading coachbuilders of the day vied with each other to produce some of the most elegant bodies ever seen. Our example follows in the footsteps of these coachbuilders, our rendition has been taken from one of the lesser known coachbuilders who produced a one off example for a European owner for his use in the Alpine Trials of the late 30's, hence our Alpine label. Its sporting silhouette cleverly disguising the disappearing hood behind the front seats. Enhanced by the use of the straight 8 cylinder B series 5875cc engine and the robust Bentley MK6 chassis, it gives effortless continental travel for today's driver." It arrives with us fist week August. We can UK register the car should you so desire. A gallery of large high-resolution pictures may be viewed on our website. Vintage and Prestige are proud to offer this 1951 Bentley MKVI Special Bodied Roadster For Sale. Registration: LVM 968 Chassis no: B180KM Engine no: B90K Coachwork: J C Pitney and Sons Mileage Since Complete rebuild: 1,200 Affectionately known as Annie this MKVI first started life as a standard steel bodied MKVI saloon. This is not your usual case of an un-loved MKVI chassis being built up into a special, LVM 968 had in fact been well maintained and was garaged in excellent condition. In 1994 was fire damaged in the owners garage and it was at this point the current owner purchased her with the vision to create a magnificent roadster. The chassis was lowered, various cosmetic adjustments made to the chassis irons, engine and gearbox which were moved back 260mm. Every mechanical and electrical component on the car was checked and overhauled by the renowned experts Sergeants of Goudhurst over a three year period. The body was designed by the owner, who tasked J C Pitney and Sons with creating his masterpiece. The long, sweeping boat tail design is striking from every angle, and has many Bugatti-esque features. The complete build amounted to 8 years and less than 1,300 miles have been covered since then. To drive she is well balanced and powerful, the engine is smooth and sweet, a true delight on the road. In our showroom and ready for viewing. 1926 Bentley 3 litre with Vanden Plas Style Body. Chassis number: 1155 Engine Number: 1170 Registration number: YM4224 Under the present family ownership for 82 years!!!! We are selling this car on behalf of the grand daughter of the man who bought it in 1937 no less. She has enjoyed the car & very ably driven it during the last decade or so but now wishes to pass it on to its next custodian. This 3 litre Bentley represnts Bentley motoring in its purest form. Light powerful & responsive are the words I would use to describe it with a "Go anywhere" feel to it. The car benefitted from a full overhaul some years ago leaving the engine in fine running order. To drive an early 3 litre Bentley is to experience the marque in its purest form which became lost as the cars grew bigger & heavier. The car is all matching numbers with the exception of the steering box which was swapped for an earlier one decades ago during the years when these cars were used as daily transport & owners were more hung up on being able to use the car as opposed to making sure their numbers all matched. Thus the car has its original engine, A type gear box, chassis & axles etc, The radiator is the original unit from the Galley Radiator company; the instruments the originals as supplied to the car when new. The car was rebodied many years ago & comes with an original Bentley red print set of plans from which the body was constructed. Indeed a beautiful job was done on the ash framing matching exactly to the original Bentley Prints dating back to 1925 which come with the car. Also a 1929 pattern drilled split skirt piston comes from the car which was removed during the engine rebuild when new pistons were fitted. The real beauty of this car is the used & patinated feel it has to it. It has clearly been loved, cherished & used as its maker intended. The car starts readily & displays 17lbs or so of oil pressure at all times. Temperature from the Boyce Motometer on the radiator stays well in the green at all times. A faded black hood is fitted in very serviceable condition. A similarly faded full split tonneau cover also comes with the car. There is a removable rear rack & luggage box along with a full set of side screens that stow in front of the luggage box. The car comes with a massive history file with correspondence dating back to the 1950's. We will photograph this in due course aftre it arrives from the onwer who is making copies of it due it being such a part of the family history. Originally a Weyman saloon, the car suffered an accident in the 1930's with damage to the rear quarter. The grandfather of the current owner purchased the car & fitted a saloon body from a Talbot to it & the car then provided fast family transport for many years before the current VDP body was painstakingly constructed using a traditional ash frame. The body is covered in maroon rexine fabric with the original wings painted black. A large & mellifluous klaxon is fitted to the running board ready to bray out ones arrival. The front number plate we notice is loosely attached to the fornt crossmember & has a habit of blowing back close to horizontal when at speed; an earley attempt at speed camera avoidance perhaps??? The car is fitted with 21" beaded edge rims & tyres to the front which helps account for the light direct steering. Delightful period details abound such as the original rev counter coupling coming our of the back of the engine. A gallery of large high-resolution pictures may be viewed on our website. Vintage and Prestige are proud to offer this 1952 Bentley R-Type DHC by Graber for sale. This unique Bentley was first bought by Professor Rudolf Geigy, biologist, zoologist, geneticist amnd CEO of the Swiss Pharmaceutical company, CIBA-GEIGY. He ordered an R-Type chassis from Rolls-Royce and Bentley at Derby, and had it delivered to Swiss coachbuilders Graber in Wichtracg, where he asked Hermann Graber to design and build a drophead coupé for himself as a 50thbirthday present. Graber founded in the 1920s, had a fine reputation of building bodies for British cars, including Alvis, Lagonda, Aston Martin, Rolls-Royce and Rover, and was famed for its beautiful, perfectly balanced and rather restrained lines. On chassis B89RS Hermann Graber styled a typically graceful and individual car, with a straight-through wing line, rear quarter lights, and the large soft-top very well harmonised with the boot lines. Underneath, the Bentley R Type chassis and drivetrain was very like that of the Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn: power came from the well proven straight-six with inlet-over-exhaust valves, but with twin SU carburettors rather than the single one fitted to the Silver Dawn, it produced and estimated 130bhp, enough for lively performance up to around 100mph. The front suspension was independent with wishbones and coil springs, and there was a live axle with leaf springs at the rear. The drum brakes were servo-assisted. The main difference with the preceding model was the longer chassis which allowed more luggage space and gave scope for come beautiful bodywork to be added. Standard steel factory bodies were available, but many chassis were sent to coachbuilders. Professor Geigy kept the car for a decade before it went to an owner in Germany, and it later travelled to Hong Kong. In recent years the car was sent back to Austria, to Zweimüller near Linz, for a complete, nut and bolt restoration, and since then the car has only sparingly been used on dry days. Today the car is in absolute concours condition, which was proven by its recent entry into the 2018 Concours of Elegance 2018 at Hampton court Palace.
