Rare Brit

Colin Chapman's Lotus marque was famous for many things, but there was nevertheless an underlying theme of light and nimble cars.

The Eclat is perhaps one of the less-known models, built in several variants from 1975 through to 1982.

Running a 2.0lt and then 2.2lt inline four, they ran three transmissions: a four- and five-speed manual, plus a three-speed auto.

Construction was typical for the brand at the time, with a fibreglass body over a steel chassis.

Press reviews of the day complimented the model on its grip and handling – always Lotus strengths.

This example is a 523 variant with 2.0lt engine and five-speed manual. It's with Prestige Motor Gallery in Sydney, priced at $37,990.
