Big results at Shannons auction

Lambo heads the list, and HK ute surprises

This month's Shannons classic auction proved the local market is alive and well, while popping up the odd surprise.

Top price went to a 25th anniversary edition Lamborghini Countach (lot 177), which fetched $490,500.

Highest Aussie bids went to a GT-HO and Monaro.

The Ford (lot 167) was a Phase II XW, which sold for $373,500.

Meanwhile the Holden (lot 166) was an HK GTS 327 that went for $301,000.

However the biggest surprise came from a humble HK Holden Kingswood utility (lot 147), albeit in exceptional condition. Interest was strong and bidding went to $50,000.

Owners of European cars had a good night, with a host of strong results.

Perhaps most notable was a 1971 Porsche 911E Sportmatic (lot 160), which sold for a dizzying $225,500.

Also getting plenty of interest was a nicely-presented right-hand-drive Citroen SM (lot 159) which fetched $146,000.

The British weren't left out. A 1970 Morris Mini Cooper S (lot 140) went for $80,500.

Collector interest in Nissan R32 GT-R Skylines has seen their prices move rapidly, as evidenced by lot 187, a 1991 Australian-delivered car that fetched $91,000.

There were also some very solid buys on the night. A 1980 CM Valiant in exceptional shape went for $38,000 – substantial money but good value compared to the cost of a restoration. 

Our pick for bang-for-your-buck was lot 121, a 1993 Pontiac Firebird that went for $14,000.
