Make an entrance with this rare ‘bubbletop’ factory big-block Impala

The popularity of American classics on local shore pales in comparison to the collectible local market, but often offers unmatched road presence and, in many cases, will feel far more unique amongst the more prevalent homegrown classics.

Take this rare factory big-block Impala for example.

A factory 348ci big-block two-door ‘bubbletop’ coupe, the unique ‘bubbletop’ roof with curved A-pillars was only offered for the 1961 model year Impala; with rare factory combos like this becoming more and more sought-after overseas and locally.

The car wears its original hue of Sea Mist Turqoise, which reportedly shows only minor and minimal imperfections whilst all chrome shows no signs of pitting or damage. The interior is said to be all original with the exception of newly replaced carpets.

Under the bonnet, that big-block 348ci was completely rebuilt in 2018, and was bestowed with numerous new parts including aluminium manifolds, pulleys, Holley carburettor, MSD ignition and distributor, new radiator, exhaust and more.

Brakes were upgraded to power units, with new booster and master cylinder; whilst an electric vacuum pump and tank ensure the brakes are working at all times. The steering has been converted to a power-assisted rack-and-pinion system, whilst virtually all suspension components have been gradually replaced over the past ten years.

Overall, it’s a fantastic upgraded example of an increasingly desirable model. If anyone is after a weekend classic that’s a little different but looks to have had everything done – this bubbletop Impala might be worth a look.
