Hot on the block recently: VL Walkinshaw + HDT VK Group A + Corvette Stingray + BMW E36 M3

1988 HOLDEN COMMODORE VL GROUP A SS WALKINSHAW

Sold: $340,000
Burns & Co

Here's the first life-after-Brock VL Group A Commodore from the shed of Holden’s longtime shedmate, Tom Walkinshaw's HSV. It’s coated, appropriately, in Panorama Silver with almost matching cloth trim. This absolute pearler from the D’Alberto family collection hasn’t been registered and has travelled only 1308kms. It wears the build number 333, matching the other Gp A SS models up for grabs at the same auction. No wonder bidding was so fierce for this piece of Aussie muscle history.

1985 HOLDEN VK COMMODORE SS GROUP HDT

Sold: $305,000

Fetching another record price was this superb 1985 VK Blue Meanie. I wonder if the buyer of Brock’s finest work was the same person who grabbed the other Group As being auctioned. Would be nice to keep them corralled. Like all the SS models owned by the D'Albertos from new it wears build number 333 and has clicked over just 2300 kms. You'd be hard pressed to find a better example.

1986 HOLDEN COMMODORE HDT VL SS

Sold: $155,000
Burns & Co

Another humdinger of a price for the last SS Commodore Brocky ever had a hand in. It is number 333 of the 500 built and been with the D’Alberto family since new and has only chalked up 5309 kms. The Permanent Red paintwork is unblemished and the grey interior as clean as a whistle. Sure it’s a lot of coin, but being the last GM factory Brock, it’s got a great pedigree and history.

1996 BMW E36 M3

Sold: $22,000
Shannons

Bmw -e 36-m3

The revered BMW M3, especially the E36 guise is an affordable modern classic with a huge following. The E36 is the first M3 to be sold here and this beautiful coupe is finished in the rare combo of Boston Green with light grey interior. Powered by the signature straight six, this one being 3.2-litres, it has a six-speed manual gearbox bolted to it. Offered with no reserve, it ended up going out the door for a bargain price.

1969 CHEVROLET CORVETTE STINGRAY

Sold: $69,000
Burns & Co

Chevrolet -corvette

It's hard to go past a big block 427 Chev with a four-speed manual transmission bolted to it. Especially in a '69 Vette. This beauty has just 30,852 miles on the clock and has been with the D'Alberto family since 1971. Over its life it has had a respray in Tuxedo Black, matching the interior hue and been converted to RHD.

What's moving and shaking:

TOYOTA SUPRA

Toyota -supra

Being the star in the original Fast and Furious movie, albeit in a highly modified state, many have bought Toyota Supras and emulated the mods of the movie car.

Therefore, finding an unmolested twin-turbo may be a long journey, but if you find the right car you will be rewarded with a powerful, engaging almost bullet-proof comfy two-door coupe that is good fun to punt.

Supra prices have gone ballistic in recent years and some are asking close to a hundred grand for the twin-turbo. While you or I mightn't pay that for one it seems someone will, or close to that, which means if you can find a good, original cheapie, you're laughing.
