The 2nd Gen (1968-1970) GTX was positioned to be an upscale model of the Plymouth Road Runner by adding luxury to performance. In 1969 the GTX received minor cosmetic changes to the tail lights and grille, as well as the side marker lights. An optional "Air Grabber" hood featured functional openings on both sides of the hood that were controlled from the dash. It was positioned as a mid-sized upscale-trimmed performance muscle car through to the 1971 model year.
This car was produced on the 22nd July 1969 in Chrysler's Los Angeles, Southern California plant as a GTX 2-dr hardtop coupe and was fitted with an 'L-Code' 440cui-4v V8 'Super Commando' high performance big block engine. It was matched with a heavy duty TorqueFlite 727 3-speed console-shift automatic transmission. The trim/body plate identifies it as painted in Chryslers Black Velvet and trimmed with Red vinyl upholstery and fitted with front bucket seats. The car was also fitted with a Black vinyl top. The car when built was delivered to the Portland, Oregon district sales office where it was sold new to its current owner, who now at 83 years old has decided to part ways with it.
This car has just been purchased from the original owner. Always a Black Velvet car with Red upholstery and still in beautiful condition throughout! The paint and upholstery are in excellent condition. The original 440cui 4-bbl V8 engine with an "Air Grabber" hood still powers this awesome muscle car. Other features include a console shift automatic transmission, posi-traction rear end, power steering, and the original AM radio. The sheetmetal is as straight as the day it left the factory, with excellent fit and finish. The undercarriage is clean with the factory undercoat still in place. A testament to the condition of this car are the taillight housings which are nice and un-pitted. This car has been garage kept its whole life and pampered by its now 83 year old owner.
He said, "it was time to let it go", and we were lucky enough to get the opportunity to secure this original and unmolested GTX. This is truly a rare find of a sought-after muscle car, especially in this condition and being single ownership from new.
