The Mercedes Benz 190SL is a two-door grand touring convertible with removable hardtop. The SL debuted at the New York Auto Show in 1954 before going into full production in early 1955. The Mercedes 190SL took many of its design cues from its big brother the more expensive race-bred 300SL, the road going version of the Mille Miglia winning SLR. The two cars however, were quite different. Whilst the 300SL had a purpose-built tubular spaceframe (W198), its smaller sibling was built on a shortened version of the 'Ponton' saloon (W121) platform, which was of monocoque construction. The 190SL also boasted an all-new engine - an over-square SOHC straight-four unit of 1897cc that produced 105bhp, which was sufficient to propel the car to a maximum speed of 112mph. The engine was coupled to a manual four-speed gearbox. The suspension comprised double wishbones and coil springs at the front and a coil-sprung swing axle at the rear. Steering was provided by means of a recirculating ball system and braking bypower-assisted drums all round. Built to the highest standard, the 190SL featured a well-appointed cockpit offering comfort for its occupants and relatively generous luggage space. Options included a third seat placed transversely behind the front ones which was big enough to carry an adult. The 190SL continued in production until 1963, when both it and the 300SL were replaced by the 230SL (W113). The Mercedes Benz 190SL offered here at Autostorico is chassis no. 121.040.6500981, and was first registered on New Years Day 1956. Finished in Ivory with Red leather interior and a Black hood this stunning example was purchased from its long-term owner in 2016. Subject to careful restoration, documented from 1990, this 190SL is in immaculate condition throughout and drives as well as it looks. The 190SL is the perfect blend of style and build quality, and enhanced Mercedes reputation for elegance and a decent turn of speed. As an early 190SL from the 1955 model year this stunning car is a possible entrant to the Mille Miglia. Viewing strictly by appointment only.

The Jaguar XK150 was introduced in the spring of 1957, as a replacement for the XK140 and was available as a fixed and drophead coupé. Whilst the 150 was similar in design to the outgoing model it was considerably more refined. A one piece windscreen replaced the split screen and the wing line no longer dropped as much over the doors. The bonnet was widened, opened down to the wings and on the roadster, the bulkhead was moved back four inches to make the bonnet longer. In the interior, the XK140's walnut dashboard was replaced by a leather trimmed unit. The launch specification of the XK 150 included SU carburettors, four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive, independent front suspension with wishbones, coil springs, torsion bars and anti-roll bar, rigid rear axle with semi-elliptic leaf springs, and four-wheel hydraulic disc brakes. The optional 150 S variant was introduced in 1959 boasting triple SU carburettors, a revised cylinder head increasing power to 250bhp enabling it to reach 60mph in justover 7.5 secs and onto a top speed of 132mph. The Jaguar XK150 3.4 S Drophead Coupé offered here at Autostorico is 1 of only 37 original right hand drive examples, with a genuine 81,320 documented miles. This stunning car is finished in Mist Grey with Red leather interior and Black hood. Having left the factory on 22nd June 1959, Chassis No: 827392 was delivered to Henley of London and registered as XMT 150 before acquiring its current number 1522 MW a little over a year later. Invoices in the history issued by F.W Mays & Co Ltd of Dorking Surrey show previous owners in the 1960s including Messers Aird, Grogan and Lines. The Jaguar spent the next twenty-odd years in Chelsea entrusted to Burgess Garage of Drayton Gardens, London SW10. The 150 S benefitted from an extensive engine overhaul at 39,190 miles (reground crankshaft, rebored block, new timing chain, pistons, bearings, valves etc.) in 1971. Extensive paperwork on file shows significant maintenance carried out in the 1980s including new disc brakes in 1983, a Falcon stainless steel exhaust in 1988 along with overhauled springs and fresh wishbone bushes in 1989. Further renovation work took place in the early 1990s, including various chassis repairs undertaken by Kats of Kimpton, Herts. A complete strip and overhaul of the cars four-speed manual gearbox and overdrive units took place at 77,534 miles. Further invoices on file show the fitting of a new clutch master, slave cylinders, reconditioned fuel pumps and a replacement petrol tank. The XK 150 S was sold to N. Lawrence esq in July 1993 who commissioned the Jaguar Restoration Centre of Bridport, Dorset to rejuvenate the car shortly afterward. Fitted with new door skins and sidelight pods, the car was finished in its original livery / trim of Mist Grey with Red leather upholstery and Black hood by Wren Classics of Shaftesbury, Dorset. Sporting refurbished chrome work and replacement wire wheels, the car was also fitted with a new mohair hood envelope and crank damper in 1995 and 1998 respectively. Covering just over 80,000 miles from new this ultra rare XK 150 S 3.4 Drophead coupé, boasting matching numbers engine, chassis and body is offered for sale with operating maintenance and service handbook (plus supplement), numerous bills and has been maintained to the very highest of standards. Supplied with an extensive history file including a current V5 registration document, previous MOTs and a heritage certificate. This stunning car offers the purchaser an opportunity to own a unique example of a true British classic, which will certainly appreciate further over time. Viewing strictly by appointment only.
