*** New Price *** A truly spectacular example of these wonderfully elegant 'slope back' Bentley Continental's - and most unusually this one sports a pair of rear wheel Spats too The history folder is quite excellent, with original correspondence from the very earliest portion of BC41BG's life Originally supplied through Mayfair and World renowned dealership Jack Barclay there are within the folder many service records, internal memorandums and also the original sales contract - its all really quite charming to behold The first owner exchanged his 'D' series 'R' Type Continental plus a wad of money for this, the then latest and most up to date Continental available at the time - how times change and now his original car is worth twice the value of this, the replacement I wonder which is really the better car - the S1 Fastback is certainly far rarer than the 'R' Type Continental JB's supplied her to the first 3 owners, it would seem from the papers and serviced her throughout - by 1960 over 52.000 miles had been covered It's funny how many visitors ask us here in the Mews whether these old cars can cope with regular use - when you look at the number of vehicles which have covered over 17.000 per annum, like this did in the first 3 years, it really makes one wonder what they thought these cars, or their owners, did all those years ago? The last two custodians of BC41BG are very well known to us here in Kensington, the former carrying out a full suspension overhaul as well as a complete engine rebuild at his local specialists near to his home in Colchester (5.000 miles only since these works were completed) and the most recent engaged us to strip her to bare metal, repaint her beautifully (making the new rear wheel Spats at this time) and also to completely re-trim the interior and boot compartments She presents, almost to perfection, whilst on the road she performs with quite astonishing aplomb - the freshly rebuilt engine is delightfully quiet and smooth, matching perfectly the seemless gearbox operation The interior is, to quote the wonderful Noel Coward, "quite devine" and a most comfortable place in which to travel; again it has to be acknowledged that the S1 Continental does take a lot of beating All in all this is one of the very nicest, if not possibly the very nicest, Fastback S1 we have come across and for the next custodian, we can confirm she gathers rather a lot of attention, from all the right people and in just the right way too

The tremendous success Bentley enjoyed with the R Type Continental continued onto the S Series chassis in late 1955 with a range of new bodies available to collectors. The Park Ward fixed head coupe and drophead coupe designs on the R Type Continental chassis were originally the brain child of legendary coachwork designer John Blatchley who had been involved in the styling of the R Type Continental by H.J. Mulliner. Six R Type Continental chassis were delivered to the Park Ward works, which were then owned by Rolls-Royce. Blatchley was given the task of styling the four drophead coupes and the two further fixed head coupes on the R Type Continental chassis, designs which were later slightly adapted for the marginally longer S1 Continental chassis. Chassis No BC10AF was originally completed in October of 1955 as a fixed head coupe, finished in silver with a grey leather interior. It was supplied by Wadham Bros Ltd in Southampton to its first owner Mr W.F.Lutyens of Petersfield. It then changed handsin 1958 when sold to a collector in Cardiff, before being sold again in 1964 to Mr M J Batt of Wimbledon. Frank Dale & Stepsons supplied BC10AF in 2000 when sold to a customer in Italy who used the car extensively across Europe. It was then supplied again by us in 2014 to a long standing customer in London. He then decided to instruct us to covert the car into a drophead coupe, built to the same specification as an original car by Park Ward. An original car was used as the blue print and set side by side to BC10AF for several weeks in order to make sure every detail was exactly the same. The underside of the car was also strengthened as per the specification of an original drophead coupe. Whilst the coachwork was changed and extensively restored, the engine was removed, upgraded to the later S1 Continental specification and overhauled. The new hood frame was constructed to match an original drophead coupe by Park Ward in terms of shape and function and fitted to the car. Once adjusted and fettled, the car was re-painted from bare metal in silver over black. The engine bay cosmetics were all restored as was the chassis and underside of the car. The chrome was re-plated and upon its return to our workshop, all other mechanical aspects were reviewed and overhauled as and where necessary. A new hood in black mohair was trimmed, as were new carpets in red to complement the existing leather which was retained. The rear seat had to be modified to fit the new style of interior, but the original leather was carefully saved and re-used to ensure the look the owner wanted. The interior woodwork was restored as was the whole dashboard area, including the steering column, steering wheel and gauges. The lighting was also upgraded, with LED bulbs added to the dashboard gauges. Power steering was added to enhance the cars manoeuvrability at parking speed and the engine was reunited with the car and run in over about 1,000 miles to complete the works. Invoices and photographs documenting the entire processare available in the cars history file. The finished product drives exactly as one would expect a fully restored S1 Continental to and the appearance of the car is not only first class cosmetically, but also indistinguishable from an original drophead coupe by Park Ward. The process to convert and restore BC10AF to its current condition and configuration was exhaustive, but the result speaks for itself and this is a car we are now delighted to be able to offer for sale (Please note the current registration number is not included)

The success of the Mk VI and R Type prompted Bentley to pursue its post war policy of producing standard factory built coachwork with the introduction of the all new S1 saloon in early 1955. John Blatchley who was chief designer at this time was given the task of styling the new coachwork; the final result being met with wide approval. The new offering from Bentley was larger in size than its predecessors but is still considered to be one of the most elegant and balanced models ever produced. The Continental series cars were produced in conjunction with the factory built cars, but there were also come coachbuilt options available on standard chassis S Types, with Chassis No B140BA being one of these examples. It is one of twenty six cars built to Design No B10 by James Young, all of which were right hand drive motor cars. It was originally finished in velvet green with grey leather and was supplied by Jack Barclay Ltd to its first owner Mr Arthur Holmes of Harrogate in November of 1958. It was thenpurchased by Captain R.P. Phillips is 1960 and by John Matthey and Co in late 1963. Chassis No B140BA was then exported to the United States and remained there until 1989 when purchased and repatriated by Mr Peter Channing. The car was dispatched to Wildae restorations upon its return to the UK where it was comprehensively restored, with the work completed in 1992. The nut and bolt restoration cost in excess of seventy thousand pounds at the time. Since then the car has been well maintained and enjoyed. It comes fitted with air conditioning, complete tools and its extensive history file contains copy chassis cards, historical correspondence, and details of the restoration with invoices and photographs present. This handsome coachbuilt Bentley still presents and drives beautifully, testament to the quality of the restoration works carried out.

Chassis No BC7AF was originally completed in October of 1955 and was just the fifth car built to Design No 700 on the S1 Continental chassis by Park Ward. It was originally finished in sable with beige leather and was initially retained as the trial car at the Rolls-Royce showroom in Conduit Street in London. It wassubsequently delivered to its first owner Mr S Norman of Ilford in Essex in October of 1958. It was purchased in July of 1961 by MR C Atkey of Nottinghamshire and the by Mr Lee of London in August of 1963. It was acquired by Bentley specialist P.J.Fischer in the early 1990s and subsequently restored and supplied by him to a customer based in Hong Kong. The car remained in the UK and was maintained by Fischer, with it being readily available for the owner when in the London area. It was first supplied by Frank Dale & Stepsons in 2008 to a customer in Switzerland and then again by us in 2012 to another Swiss based customer. Over the last few years the car has been comprehensively mechanically restored to ensure complete reliability on long distance rallies. The works included but were not limited to an engine re-build, the fitting of an aluminium radiator, electronic ignition fitted, a gearbox overhaul, prop shaft and rear axle re-built and a complete brake re-build. The completed motor car is inexcellent condition in every respect. Chassis No BC7AF is one of just fifty eight cars built to this design in right hand drive and in our opinion is fast becoming one of the most sought after models in the post war Bentley era. It is complete with copy chassis cards, history file, air conditioning, complete tools, handbook and various spares for touring. In our opinion, it is one of the best examples you will find and is fully prepared for its next owners enjoyment.

The success of the R Type Continental between 1952 and 1955 lead to the creation of the S1 Continental chassis, which was released in April of 1955. For the first time Bentley enthusiasts had a greater choice of coachwork designs to choose from with H.J. Mulliner and Park Ward responsible for bodying the majority of the S1 Continentals produced. One of the most popular designs was the fastback coachwork by H.J. Mulliner, built to design number 7400. It was modified to fit the 3 inch longer S1 Continental chassis and in styling terms was adapted further from the R Type Continental with a raised front wingline and less bulbous rear wings with a higher line which were finished with stylish new swage lines. Chassis number BC55AF which we are currently offering for sale is one of just ninety seven cars built to Design No 7400 in right hand drive by H.J.Mulliner between 1955 and 1959. It was originally completed in May of 1956, finished in midnight blue with a beige leather interior and was supplied newby H.A. Fox Ltd to the Countess of Suffolk and Berkshire who lived in Bruton, Somerset. It was then purchased by Peter Cadbury in 1957 and Bradleys Ltd shortly after. Chassis No BC55AF was first supplied by Frank Dale & Stepsons in early 1995, to a customer in west London who used the car as his daily driver. It became synonymous in Knightsbridge and the surrounding areas and was perhaps one of the most photographed S1 Fastbacks around. The car was maintained by Frank Dale & Stepsons for the owner during this time until August of 2010 when it was supplied again by us, this time to a collector in the midlands. He kept the car until late 2013 when it was supplied by us again, to a collector in Asia. Prior to shipping the new owner instructed the restoration of the car which included but was not limited to coachwork restoration and a re-paint in black, a re-trim in St James red leather with new carpets and headlining, chrome and woodwork restoration, plus full mechanical prep work including a completeengine overhaul. The car has been sparingly used since the works in 2013 and 2014 and presents and drives beautifully. It is fitted with a modern stereo system concealed in the glovebox, air conditioning and has also been upgraded with factory style power steering. It comes complete with a history file containing copy chassis cards, historical paperwork and restoration details. This beautiful and striking motor car is one we are proud to offer for sale again.

The tremendous success Bentley enjoyed with the R Type Continental continued onto the S Series chassis in late 1955 with a range of new bodies available to collectors. The Park Ward fixed head coupe was originally the brain child of legendary coachwork designer John Blatchley who had been largely responsible for the styling of the R Type Continental by H.J. Mulliner. Six R Type Continental chassis were delivered to the Park Ward works who were then owned by Rolls-Royce. Blatchley was given the task of styling the four drophead coupes and the two further fixed head coupes on the R Type Continental chassis, a design which was later slightly adapted for the marginally longer S1 Continental chassis. Chassis No BC67BG is one of just forty five examples built by Park Ward to Design No 701 in right hand drive on the S1 Continental chassis. It was originally completed in January of 1957, finished in shell grey and black with a red interior. It was supplied by P.J. Evans Ltd of Birmingham to its first ownerMetal Products Co Ltd of Willenhall. It was retained by the first owner until December 1965 when sold to R.W McClaughlin and belonged to the following owners from this point onwards, Mr H Tildsley (January 1968) Mr F.N. Crabtree (March 1968) Mr J.D.Crabtree (August 1976) Mr J.J.Coventry (March 1993) Mr W.G.Marlow (May 1998) The car left Britain for the first time in September 2004 when purchased by Mr D.P. Sverneborn of Ranas in Sweden who kept the car until 2007 when he sent it back to London to be restored and then sold. The car was re-finished at this time in Tudor grey with a new tan leather interior. An electric sunroof was also fitted at this time. The car was sold to Jennifer Lemos of London who kept it for a year and sold it in July 2008 to a Bentley collector in Lincolnshire. In 2010 said collector traded BC67BG with another S1 Continental Frank Dale & Stepsons had in stock at the time. Following our acquisition of the car, we re-painted the lower half in gunmetal grey and mechanicallyprepared the car for sale, supplying it in October of 2010. Since this point, the car has returned to us each springtime for servicing and further improvements as and where the current owner requested them. Works over the past eight years have included a gearbox overhaul, suspension overhaul, brake overhaul, instillation of an upgraded universal joint to the prop shaft for added smoothness and the fitting of under dashboard LED lights which are activated when the interior lights are illuminated. Chassis No BC67BG comes complete with an extensive history file, copy chassis cards, tools and is freshly serviced and prepared for the next fortunate owner.
