*** New Price *** A truly spectacular example of these wonderfully elegant 'slope back' Bentley Continental's - and most unusually this one sports a pair of rear wheel Spats too The history folder is quite excellent, with original correspondence from the very earliest portion of BC41BG's life Originally supplied through Mayfair and World renowned dealership Jack Barclay there are within the folder many service records, internal memorandums and also the original sales contract - its all really quite charming to behold The first owner exchanged his 'D' series 'R' Type Continental plus a wad of money for this, the then latest and most up to date Continental available at the time - how times change and now his original car is worth twice the value of this, the replacement I wonder which is really the better car - the S1 Fastback is certainly far rarer than the 'R' Type Continental JB's supplied her to the first 3 owners, it would seem from the papers and serviced her throughout - by 1960 over 52.000 miles had been covered It's funny how many visitors ask us here in the Mews whether these old cars can cope with regular use - when you look at the number of vehicles which have covered over 17.000 per annum, like this did in the first 3 years, it really makes one wonder what they thought these cars, or their owners, did all those years ago? The last two custodians of BC41BG are very well known to us here in Kensington, the former carrying out a full suspension overhaul as well as a complete engine rebuild at his local specialists near to his home in Colchester (5.000 miles only since these works were completed) and the most recent engaged us to strip her to bare metal, repaint her beautifully (making the new rear wheel Spats at this time) and also to completely re-trim the interior and boot compartments She presents, almost to perfection, whilst on the road she performs with quite astonishing aplomb - the freshly rebuilt engine is delightfully quiet and smooth, matching perfectly the seemless gearbox operation The interior is, to quote the wonderful Noel Coward, "quite devine" and a most comfortable place in which to travel; again it has to be acknowledged that the S1 Continental does take a lot of beating All in all this is one of the very nicest, if not possibly the very nicest, Fastback S1 we have come across and for the next custodian, we can confirm she gathers rather a lot of attention, from all the right people and in just the right way too

![CDATA[The first owner of this Bentley SI complete with James Young coachwork and finished in blue-black paintwork with red leather upholstery, was quite a character, to say the least. It was given to Lady Norah Docker in 1956 as a present by her husband, Sir Bernard Docker, Managing Director of BSA. A former nightclub dancer, Norah Turner married Sir Bernard Docker in 1949 after two previous millionaire marriages (in five years). Even in post-war England where austerity was the norm, Sir Bernard and Lady Norah led a lavish life. A self-proclaimed stylist, Lady Docker even commissioned coachbuilder Hooper of which she had become a director to build a new and ostentatious display model for Daimler every year to enhance the reputation of the BSA owned marque and to attract a wealthier clientele. Eventually, the BSA management had enough of the Dockers indulgent lifestyle and massive expense account and Sir Bernard was removed from the board. He and Lady Docker were gradually excluded from highsociety and lost more and more of their possessions. They spent their last days in a bungalow in Jersey as tax exiles. In 1955, still enjoying the good days, Sir Bernard commissioned this Bentley SI for Lady Norah. Chassis number B14BA with its six-cylinder, 4.9 litre engine (BB7) was fitted with an elegant James Young body, design number B10, of which only 26 examples have been made. The Dockers took delivery of the Bentley on 14th July, 1956. The original registration was ND5, for Norah Docker. In the 1980s the Bentley went to the US where it spent its life in the hands of enthusiasts. The most recent US owner has had the car since 2001, so almost 20 years, before its recent import back to the EU. It has aged well showing nice patina. Although the car might benefit from some recommissioning, especially concerning the brakes and the chassis, the engine runs well and the interior and bodywork are in good order. It comes with a handbook and a set of spare keys. It is well worth taking on the job ofgiving this stylish Bentley the attention it deserves, especially given its ownership by one of the most flamboyant characters of the 20th century.]]

![CDATA[Launched in April 1955 the Bentley SI and the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud were virtually identical with the exception of the grille and badging details. Both of these models were recipients of Managing Director Arthur Sedgreaves new production and manufacturing techniques, which produced the Standard Steel Saloon. The Standard Steel Saloon fulfilled the companys commercial requirements, but not necessarily those of all its customers. For those preferring something more elegant or more exclusive, Englands coachbuilders were still offering bespoke coachwork. As in true coachbuilding tradition, many design variations were possible on the same theme. Those who could afford such cars were limited only by their imagination, particularly regarding interior furnishings and custom touches. Most of the Bentley Ss were bodied by H.J. Mulliner and Park Ward, but James Young of Bromley also decided to produce bespoke coachwork for the S Continental. This Bentley was delivered new to Mr. J Townley ofPreston, Lancashire on 16th May 1956 in its original paint colour of Black Pearl over Dove Grey. This handsome and highly sought after example is now presented in the subtle colour combination of Sand over Sable with a contrasting deep red leather interior, exuding patina as one would expect and with the odour reminiscent of a traditional library full of leather bound books. This model is fitted with power steering and its smooth five litre is mated to an automatic gearbox. The coachline matches the interior leather colour and its fabulous coupé body styling is stunning with sweeping arches and long bonnet line. These really were and still are the epitome of British styling and manufacturing at its finest. The car comes with what the owner believes to be, the original tool kit and its original AA booklet.]]

The success of the R Type Continental between 1952 and 1955 lead to the creation of the S1 Continental chassis, which was released in April of 1955. For the first time Bentley enthusiasts had a greater choice of coachwork designs to choose from with H.J. Mulliner and Park Ward responsible for bodying the majority of the S1 Continentals produced. One of the most popular designs was the fastback coachwork by H.J. Mulliner, built to design number 7400. It was modified to fit the 3 inch longer S1 Continental chassis and in styling terms was adapted further from the R Type Continental with a raised front wingline and less bulbous rear wings with a higher line which were finished with stylish new swage lines. Chassis number BC55AF which we are currently offering for sale is one of just ninety seven cars built to Design No 7400 in right hand drive by H.J.Mulliner between 1955 and 1959. It was originally completed in May of 1956, finished in midnight blue with a beige leather interior and was supplied newby H.A. Fox Ltd to the Countess of Suffolk and Berkshire who lived in Bruton, Somerset. It was then purchased by Peter Cadbury in 1957 and Bradleys Ltd shortly after. Chassis No BC55AF was first supplied by Frank Dale & Stepsons in early 1995, to a customer in west London who used the car as his daily driver. It became synonymous in Knightsbridge and the surrounding areas and was perhaps one of the most photographed S1 Fastbacks around. The car was maintained by Frank Dale & Stepsons for the owner during this time until August of 2010 when it was supplied again by us, this time to a collector in the midlands. He kept the car until late 2013 when it was supplied by us again, to a collector in Asia. Prior to shipping the new owner instructed the restoration of the car which included but was not limited to coachwork restoration and a re-paint in black, a re-trim in St James red leather with new carpets and headlining, chrome and woodwork restoration, plus full mechanical prep work including a completeengine overhaul. The car has been sparingly used since the works in 2013 and 2014 and presents and drives beautifully. It is fitted with a modern stereo system concealed in the glovebox, air conditioning and has also been upgraded with factory style power steering. It comes complete with a history file containing copy chassis cards, historical paperwork and restoration details. This beautiful and striking motor car is one we are proud to offer for sale again.
