Introduced to the model range by Aston Martin in 2011, the Virage and convertible version, the Virage Volante, were positioned between the DB9 and DBS models. To us, the Virage hasnt yet been fully appreciated; not only one of the best looking Gaydon Era Aston Martins, but also a model enhanced by a number of performance upgrades, making it a significantly more dynamic car to drive than its DB9 cousin. Produced for just over a year, only 369 Virage Volantes were produced at the Gaydon factory, making it one of the rarest models of that era. All Virage Volantes, including our example, were supplied with the six-speed Touchtronic 2 transmission and with Aston Martins Adaptive Damping System (ADS) and Carbon Ceramic brakes. Engine performance was uprated on the Virage model to 490bhp. The superb example we are now delighted to offer was first supplied in September 2011 and is finished in Meteorite Silver with Obsidian Black hides and a black hood. In addition to the standard, luxurious Virage specification, this particular example benefits from optional extras including uprated alarm system, Aston Martin 700w Premium Audio, black brake calipers, piano black veneers, front parking sensors, Sports seats and 20 inch 10 spoke diamond turned wheels. Used sparingly by its two former owners, this car has covered just 13,500 miles from new. Benefitting from a full Aston Martin Main agent service history and presenting in exceptional condition throughout, this Virage Volante is now ready to be enjoyed this forthcoming motoring season. We certainly cant imagine a finer model in which to complete that long awaited European tour!

The Aston Martin Virage made its debut at the Birmingham Motorshow in 1988 as the latest creation to be hand built and sculpted at Aston Martin Works Newport Pagnell factory. Designed by John Heffernan and Ken Greeley it was praised for its fresh contemporary styling. It proved to be quieter and more comfortable than the earlier V8's and was indeed the first truly new Aston Martin in nearly 20 years. The new V8 engine was a development of the tried and tested 5.3 litre V8, but with new cylinder heads with four valves per cylinder for better breathing and to overcome power losses inevitable with the use of catalytic converters. This three keeper example was first registered in March 1990 and it comes with an extensive service history by Aston Martin Works, which is evidenced within the original service book. This example is one of very few factory Manual transmission cars. Works Service have spent considerable time bringing this car back to an excellent condition and this is visible now that the car is presented at show standard.

The Vanquish had a controversial birth. It had been given a big build up in time for its UK debut at the 2000 Birmingham Motor Show, but it created more headlines by not appearing at the NEC. It was reported that Dr Ulrich Bez, the Chief Executive of Aston Martin, was unhappy with the fact that the Vanquish was using dashboard air vents from a Ford Ka. Despite the quality of the parts, he was not prepared for a 164,000 flagship supercar to share parts quite so obviously with a 7,000 shopping special. It reflects Aston Martin's approach to the Vanquish - it was a flagship model designed to compete with the Ferrari 550 Maranello, a car that Aston Martin forensically examined to understand the quality standards required. Stylist Ian McCallum's elegant body design work on the Vanquish adds muscle and aggression to the previously svelte lines. Employing a low volume hand-built construction process, the car's chassis was of composite aluminium bonded, for reasons of strength, around a carbon fibretransmission tunnel. Extruded aluminium bulkheads were riveted and bonded to the floor pan with single piece composite side panels. A' pillars made from braided carbon fibre around a honeycomb centre, the engine, steering and front suspension were mounted on a sub frame crafted from the same materials and bolted to the front bulkhead. The ancillaries were mounted on a deformable composite crash structure with a similar structure providing for rear impact and aluminium bars allowing for side protection on collision. The flat underside of Vanquish tunnels into venturis generating down force and better high speed stability. The external coachwork was produced using a new process known as superforming (super-plastic-forming) and pressed aluminium. This involves bringing the composite to a liquid plastic state and pouring the product over moulds with air pressure employed to control the final shaping. These aerospace quality panels are finally bonded to the composite structure by hand to ensure perfectfit and finish and protected with eight coats of paint. New 10J x 19 forged alloy road wheels were shod with specially developed Yokohama tyres and braking was by four piston Brembo callipers biting 335mm gross drilled discs to the front and similar to the rear with a Teves ABS system and engine management control traction to the rear wheels. Tyre pressures were designed to be electronically monitored. 8 Connolly hides and 129 square feet of Wilton carpet in each car, maintained focus on comfort and quality while the use of high tech, hand finished aluminium accentuates the performance environment. Driver and passenger seating was by Recaro with full electric adjustment and heating. Sophisticated climate control was fitted as standard along with other useful driver's aids such as, auto dimming rear view mirror, rain sensitive wipers with a heated windscreen, remote controlled central locking with boot release with an alarm and immobiliser. The rear cabin could be trimmed to form two rear seats.Developments to the old DB7 Vantage's 48-valve 6.0-litre V12 engine generated a 7% increase in power and a 2.5% increase in torque. The 450bhp developed will propel the 1820kg Aston from rest to 60 in under 4.5 seconds before reaching a maximum speed in excess of 190mph. Summary:; No-one has doubted the intrinsic beauty of the automotive art that the Aston Martin Vanquish represents - the only doubts that people had were the drive of the then Chief Executive of the company, Ulrich Bez to launch the car with a paddle gearchange. The upgrade to a manual gearbox dismissed those doubts and every Aston Martin enthusiast's dreams are articulated in this wonderful example - the understated Antrim Blue exterior that seems to emphasise the classic lines of the car. The Parchment leather interior that creates a sense of luxury and the perfect environment to enjoy the enhanced power and performance of a true supercar. An exceptional car ready for a discerning buyer. Vehicle History; Registered in November2002, this 2003 model year car was supplied new by HWM in Surrey by a Stephen Friend and the car was registered in the name of one of his companies. Two more notes of remark about Mr Friends stewardship of this car were what he describes as an 'off road' moment that necessitated repairs that were carried out at Aston Martin Works Service to manufacturer quality and further changes in the name of the registered keeper within his own group of companies. There is a letter on file from Mr Friend confirming these changes and that his was the singular ownership in this period. The car was sold to its second owner, a Robert Hewlett of Wetherby in August 2007 who enjoyed the car before it was brokered to the current owner by Byron International in January 2009. The current owner has an abiding passion for Aston Martins and one of his reason for acquiring a Vanquish was the introduction, by Aston Martin Works Service, of a conversion of the car back to a full manual gearchange - three pedals and a stick! Soin went the car for the upgrade and so it has been throughout his ownership - detail maintenance and enhancements like 'S' upgrades to brakes and suspension and a Larini Sports Exhaust fitted in 2014 - all items that improve the car's road behaviour and performance and contribute to making this Aston Martin Vanquish a true modern classic.
