Luxury V8

Back when this car was new, you could have bought a decent house in just about any capital city in Australia for the same money. Owning one was a big statement.

While house prices have since sky-rocketed and car prices have arguably dropped, this W126 series marked a high point in Mercedes-Benz craftmanship – they were big, solid and generally reliable cars. And, of course, luxurious.

In a feature on the W126 sedans we noted that price seemed no barrier to sales volume: "While the prices may have been staggering, so were the sales – over 818,000 sedans (we’ll deal with the coupes another day), which meant it was the biggest S-class production of all time."

This example runs the 3.8lt V8 with four-speed automatic transmission.

It’s with John Conroy in Brisbane, priced at $14,990.
