Mustang alternative
Though significant numbers of Cougars were imported to Australia, you tend not to see a lot of them at car shows and they have considerable appeal for someone looking for an alternative to a Mustang, perhaps with a little more size.
According to our feature on the series: "The Mercury Cougar was announced in September 1966 and slipped easily into the space between Ford’s Mustang and Thunderbird. While still regarded as a ‘Pony Car’, the Cougar sat on a wheelbase 100mm longer than the Mustang’s and took styling cues such as its roof-line and concealed headlights from full-sized models like the T-bird."
This example runs a 302 V8 with three-speed auto and is said to have a very good body. It comes with a Marti report and is registered in SA.
The car is with Classic & American Imports in Adelaide and is on the market at $53,900.
