Hero-spec survivor

Long described as the best car of the seventies to never win Bathurst, Chrysler Australia's Charger has rightly earned a legion of fans.

It was initially developed on the quiet with a shoestring budget and went on to have plenty of competition success over the years, championing the cause of well-developed straight six engines.

In a feature on the E37, Dave Morley writes: "And you know what, at first, things were looking pretty good for the Charger. It won Wheels magazine’s Car of the Year in 1971. Within 12 months of its launch the same year, the Charger was accounting for 50 per cent of all Valiant sales."

This example is remarkable because it has a known history and is presented as a well-preserved and unrestored car. 

As an E37, it's running the 265ci (4.4lt) inline six with triple Weber carburetors. In this case, the original three-speed manual has ben replaced with a four-speed.
