1972 Maserati Bora - today's tempter
Mid-engine V8
Maserati’s Bora – or Tipo AM117 in factory-speak – was one of the company’s great GT cars of the seventies and its first mid-engine platform.
Designed by the legendary Giorgetto Giugiaro at Italdesign, it initially ran a 4.7lt V8, later updated to 4.9lt. Both engines were a quad cam, claiming 300 and 320 horsepower respectively. They were matched to a transverse-mount five-speed manual transmission.
Just 564 were produced from 1972 to 1978 and, of them, only 27 are thought to be factory right-hand drive.
The two-seater design was later adapted into a 2+2 to create the Merak.
This example is with Oldtimer in Brisbane and is on the market at $299,950.
