Sixties muscle

Start talking about sixties muscle or pony cars and 'Mustang' is the name that first pops into mind. Camaro arguably comes a close second and, in this country at least, are far less numerous than the Ford.

In a feature on the Camaro and its rival we noted: "To say Chevrolet was badly wrong-footed by Ford’s introduction of the Mustang is a gross understatement. Frankly, it was left gasping. That instant success was the dominant topic of conversation in every rival design department across the country, according to the people who were there at the time."

Chevrolet recovered remarkably quickly and the Camaro was the result – something that’s become a lasting nameplate for the marque

This 1968 example is an SS done up as a Yenko replica, which the owner says is in great shape and largely original.

It's running an LF7 327ci (5.4lt) V8 with three-speed auto.

The Melbourne seller has it on the market for $79,999.
