Ian Fleming Bentley up for sale
Ian Fleming ordered this stunning Bentley for some friends.

A 1953 Bentley R Type Continental ordered by Ian Fleming - the 'inventor' of the James Bond character of literature and movies - has come on the market.

Fleming bought the car as a present for close friends Ivar and Josephine Bryce. Ivar was the inspiration for the Felix Leitner CIA character in Bond stories.

The Bentley is in very unusual spec, based on a R chassis with 4.5lt engine in left-hand-drive and with a manual column shift. The body is hand-made by Mulliner.

In 1971 it won an award at the annual Pebble Beach concours, after a cosmetic freshen-up. It since seems to have spent much of its life hidden away in sheds.

It's currently listed for sale as an ideal candidate for restoration, with California dealer Scott Grundfor. Price is on request. However we last saw this car on the market three years ago, listed for US$1.5 million (Au$2.0 million).
