High-octane excitement in the Athens of the South

Formula one engines will scream on December 9-10 when the Adelaide Motorsport Festival brings classic F1 cars to the famous street circuit.

Vintage, classic and modern machinery will celebrate all fields of motorsport with demonstration laps and static displays in the Victoria Park section of the track.

Kicking off the festivities for the ‘Museum in Motion’ is a street parade and party in the Gouger Street restaurant precinct on Friday December 7th.

In all, more than 700 vehicles are featured in the two-day event.

Highlights include the 1986 BMW Benetton B186 driven by Gerhard Berger, its BMW engine made 1400hp in qualifying trim, making it the most powerful ever campaigned in Formula One.

Craig Lowndes will take to the circuit in the 6.3-litre, 800 horsepower, V12 Ferrari FXX, a track-only weapon that is basically an F1 car with doors.

Alan Jones’s 1980 world championship-winning Williams FW07B will also take to the track, along with Mario Andretti’s 1970 STP March, Andrea de Cesaris’s BMS Scuderia Italia Dallara from 1989 and many more.

Other cars to be put through their paces include heritage touring cars, open-wheelers, high performance street machines, historic sports sedans, 4WD turbo, pre-1969, sports cars, supercars. And a super-sprint format event with up to 14 cars on the track at any one time. all racing against the clock.

The Rally Legends display will feature a flame-spitting Group-B spec Audi Quattro S1, an original Group B Renault A5 Turbo that competed in the Italian Rally, and Irish cult sensation Frank Kelly’s ‘Baby Blue’ Mk2 Escort.

The Festival also includes the Adelaide Rally, with 250 entrants taking part on closed-road stages through the Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley and Fleurieu Peninsula.

The Adelaide Motorsport Festival includes a gourmet food and wine area that we're told feeds the multitudes with fine South Australian produce.
