A few highlights from recent auto auctions held around the country

1968 Holden Monaro HK GTS 327

Sold: $155,000
Shannons, Sydney

It won Holden its first Bathurst, became an instant icon and today the hard-to-find Bathurst–spec 327 GTS HK Monaro’s prices keep spiralling up. Finished in Warwick Yellow, it underwent a resto starting with a stripped shell, it has new floors, a repaint, re-upholstery, new carpets and headliner. It’s understood to have the correct tags, firewall stamp and engine numbers and was offered with some parts, requiring a few finishing touches to complete it.

1974 Leyland P76 Executive

Sold: $13,000
Shannons, Sydney

Leyland -p 76

Stop laughing. After all it won the Wheels COTY. P76 prices are rising, especially the alloy 4.4-litre V8s, like this one. Boasting power-assisted front disc brakes, rack and pinion steering, MacPherson strut front suspension and concealed wipers, only 18,000 were made. This Bitter Orange coloured example, a trophy winner at the 2012 P76 Nationals with 122,705kms on the clock, has had three owners since new.

1973 BMW 3.0 CSL Coupe

Sold: $15,000
Shannons, Sydney

Bmw -csl

The CSL was a homologation race special for the European Touring Car Championship.

Harder to find than a politician with a straight answer, CSLs are highly sought. With 200 neddies from the straight six, a four-speed box and discs all-round, it’s a real driver’s car.

This is the 120th right-hand drive made and has been with the one owner since 1990. Refurbed 10 years ago, it has been sparingly driven and always garaged.

What's moving and shaking:

HSV SV88

Hsv -sv 88

Not heard of it? Don’t worry, not many have. It was HSV’s first go at a luxo-sports-sedan and based on the Calais.

Built in 1988, the SV88 is one of four VL Commodore models to wear the HSV badge and equipped with a carburetted 4.9-litre V8 with a minor performance increase and auto transmission.

Exterior modifications are confined to a slat-style grille, body painted 16x7-inch alloy wheels and a subtle boot-lid spoiler.

The exterior is painted in two-tone Doward Blue over Jewel Blue, separated by a red pinstripe.

Inside are HSV sports leather and velour in light blue. The SV88 option list included an in-car phone and fax machine, for the busy exec on the run.

Only 150 were made so they are rare, the first of the breed and therefore collectible. Happy hunting.
