American luxury at its best

The Ford Thunderbird is a large-sized personal luxury car and arguably one of the most iconic monikers ever built by the Blue Oval.

Produced between 1955 and 2005, the Thunderbird spanned eleven generations, and Ford sold more than 4.4million ‘birds in its five decades of existence.

The fourth generation of the Thunderbird was built between 1964 and 1966 and replaced the outgoing third generation.

Changes made over its predecessor included restyled front end which featured a more squared-off design aimed at maturing the Thunderbirds appearance.

Body styles that the Thunderbird could be had in included a two-door hardtop coupe and a two-door convertible.

Power came from a choice of three Ford FE V8s which were available as either a 390ci (6.4lt), 427ci (7.0lt) or 428ci (7.0lt).

The shove from these bent-eight donks was sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed automatic transmission.

The fourth generation of the Thunderbird was a highly successful model for Ford, with over 236,000 being sold in two-and-a-bit years.

This particular Thunderbird is a ’64 model and, according to the seller, the vehicle has travelled 56,000 miles from new.

The seller adds that the vehicle is absolutely original, always garaged and is in perfect condition both inside and out.

The Thunderbird is $35,000 and anyone interested in this American classic can view the full listing here.
