Toranas steal the show at Lloyds auction
Local muscle car boom continues

This A9X cruised to a sale price of $250,000.

Toranas were definitely flavour of the month at Saturday’s Lloyds auction, with three prime examples fetching good money.
A 1976 SS hatch with a 308 and some A9X dress-up bits scored a very solid $92,000, while an exceptional GTR XU-1 pulled $107,000.
Final lot for the day was an A9X hatch for which bidding shot past the $200k mark and finally settled at $250,000.
European cars did pretty well, with a 1976 Ferrari 380GTB pulling $186,000 and a 1979 Porsche 930 turbo pulling $130,000.
Mazda rotaries are still in demand, with an RX2 fetching $38,500 and an RX3 scoring a top bid of $47,600.
Replica or tribute Australian muscle cars are finding solid ground, now that originals are becoming so expensive. A 1970 Ford Falcon XY GT replica fetched $65,000, while a 1979 Holden Commodore VC Brock replica scored a top bid of $29,000.
There were some good pickings for bargain hunters: a 1984 Camaro with no reserve and in need of restoration went for $3250, while a 1988 Pontiac Firebird (also no reserve) needing a little work went for just $6200.
