2021 Market Review - Daimler 1961-1999

An encouraging $37,500 paid at auction for a Daimler 2.5 confirmed growing demand for the first Daimler to be bodied by Jaguar. Later 4.2-litre cars are typically cheaper than the 2.5, but prices are firming and good Series 2 Sovereigns can make $15,000. XJ40 and X300 versions aren’t easily found and asking prices for these have also climbed.

V12 Daimlers are scarce, especially the Series 1 Vanden Plas and 6.0-litre Double Six which can hit $40,000. Should you need to channel Royalty or just run a wedding car business, 420 Limousines offer loads of space and luxury at $40,000.

None of the distinctive SP250 sports cars appeared this year, however prices must be headed for $100,000.

2.5 V8 1962-69 $33,265 [9]

Sovereign 1970-86 $12,500 [3]

Sovereign 1987-94 $22,415 [3]

Double Six 1973-86 $28,625 [4]

DS420 1968-92 $38,400 [5]
