BUILD # 071/240 The GTS Maloos street presence is clearly identifiable through the adoption of GTSs unique front fascia design that delivers both an aggressive stance and an extensive air-intake surface area to deliver the required engine cooling. The GTS Maloo is available with either a TR6060 (MG9 spec) 6-speed manual transmission with oil cooler and twin plate clutch, or an optional 6L90E 6-speed heavy duty automatic transmission with oil cooler. Complementing the LSA powertrain is HSVs premium braking package lightweight AP radical forged 6-piston brake calipers with 390mm (front) and 372mm (rear) 2-piece rotors. In addition, and what is believed to be a global first for a utility, the GTS Maloo is fitted with Torque Vectoring. Currently only fitted to a few exclusive global marques and HSVs GEN-F GTS, Torque Vectoring helps reduce understeer by generating a rotational moment in the rear axle when the vehicle is under power. The vehicles Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system detects the understeer event, applies braking to the inside rear wheel and transfers torque to the outside rear wheel. HSVs unique Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs), side skirts, twin-hump hard tonneau and performance sail-plane help complete the visual makeover and are complemented by light-weight 20 Blade forged alloy wheels presented in a new Dark Stainless finish. Shadow-chrome quad exhaust tips and a unique number plate surround paintout combine to deliver an aggressive rear-end look with LSA and GTS badges adorning the tail-gate. HSV Performance seats wrapped in Onyx leather trim, or the optional Red Hot leather trim, set off an interior which also features a broad range of driver convenience and safety technologies. The GTS Maloo features HSVs Driver Preference Dial which facilitates the adjustment of the vehicles ESC, Traction Control, Launch Control (manual transmission), Torque Vectoring, Electric Power Steering and new electric Bi-Modal Exhaust according to three distinct pre-set modes Touring, Sport and Performance. Head-up Display, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning and Rain Sensing Wipers enhance the driver environment while the unique Enhanced Driver Interface (EDI) system provides the driver with all the performance data he or she will require. The car underwent a six year, ground up nut and bolt build, finally being completed in 2011. The result is a timeless, all steel hot rod finished to an incredibly high standard. Starting with the chassis, the original 32 chassis was boxed with a tubular X member and Model A Front cross member welded in place. The rear end has a triangulated four link with coil overs and the chassis was notched to allow suspension travel at the cars new ride height. The front received a lowered I-beam with Rod Tech four bar, transverse leaf spring and polished shocks. The steering box from a HQ was utilized along with a Falcon master cylinder to feed the Falcon disc brakes with Commodore callipers up front and drums in the rear. Holdens final traditional full-size car prior the launch of the downsized Commodore, the HZ range announced in October 1977 was the fourth revision of the original HQ series. Minor changes to the body included a new grille, badges, and hubcaps but more importantly Holden adopted the Radial Tuned Suspension already seen on the Torana range. With reworked suspension, anti-roll bars front and rear and changes to the power steering, the big Holdens handling was markedly improved, while rear disc brakes were now optional (and standard on both the GTS and Statesman) for the first time. Although the Monaro name had survived into 1977 as the HX Monaro GTS sedan, Holden decided to delete the Monaro name altogether from the new Holden HZ range. With the development of Radial Tuned Suspension, Holden transformed the bland characteristics of their full-size sedans and introduced a sporting variant simply called Holden GTS. Released in October 1977, the HZ GTS featured a four-headlight grille, front and rearspoilers, four-wheel disc brakes, sports wheels and a 4.2 litre V8 engine as standard equipment. The optional 5.0 litre V8 became standard in June 1978. Production of the GTS ceased in December 1978, with an estimated 1438 having been built.
