The start of something aggressive

While it was Ford's XR GT series that got the local line-up into performance V8s, it was the XW from 1969 that really lifted the level of aggression, both in appearance and under the bonnet.

There was room to slip in Ford's 427, but in the end the company opted for the 351 V8, matched to a four-speed manual or three-speed auto.

For someone with an eye to originality and investment, the trick these days is finding one that hasn't been messed about too much or at least has been restored with an eye to correct detail. This restored example seems to tick most of the boxes.

It's with Australian Muscle Car Sales in Sydney, which says: "The GT features the fully rebuilt factory matching numbers 351 4V Cleveland. A four-speed Top Loader gearbox has been professionally installed to replace the FMX automatic which has been reconditioned and is supplied with the car for fitment if the new owner would like the car back to automatic.

"The GT runs the original nine-inch diff that has also been fully reconditioned. Mechanically, the GT features all the day one date matching components including the crank, rods, pistons, original carby, water pump, manifolds, sump etc. And receipts are supplied for all the restoration work.

"The car features all its original glass with the exception of the windscreen and features the original dealer sticker on the rear window."

Price? You're looking at $295,000.
