The whole international clubman scene is one of those things that seems to tick along a little below the radar, even though the numbers can be quite staggering.
One of the more successful makes across the decades was Westfield. In a feature on the marque, we wrote: “Creating a kit-car empire was not even a remote consideration in 1982 when British engineer Chris Smith set out to produce a replica of the classic Lotus XI sports/racer.
“Within a year, though, fellow enthusiasts were queuing for their own examples of Smith’s quasi-Lotus and Westfield was founded.”
That company since changed hands, but it successfully tapped into a very real desire in the market for home-build projects.
One of the more spectacular ones we covered in recent times was this Don Lewis-built MX-5 powered project.
The car advertised here runs a twin-cam 1600 Toyota powerplant matched to a five-speed manual transmission. Located in South Australia, it’s being offered with a lot of paperwork and history and is said to be in good working condition.
It’s on the market at $28,500.
