Seeing one Volvo P1800 pop up on the local market is reason enough to sit up and take notice, while having a matching set of coupe and estate more or less counts as an event!
The cars are in the current Shannons auction, which ends tomorrow night.
Built in 1964, the coupe has bhad some restoration work done over time. Bidding at the time of writing was at $45,500.
The estate is a 1972 model with relatively low mileage and is said to be in largely original shape. Bidding was at $11,500.
Based on Amazon series mechanicals, the P1800ss ran an 1800 four-cylinder powerplant plus a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive.
As Cliff Chambers wrote in a feature on the series: “When Jaguar said ‘no’ to supplying an E-Type as transport for British ITV’s new series The Saint, Volvo jumped at the chance for some free publicity and links to charismatic Roger Moore who played the suave Simon Templar.
“Even 55 years after the original show’s demise, its imagery still burns like magnesium and vendors across the world continue to describe P1800s and their derivates as ‘The Saint’s Car’.”
